I'm Caitlyn H., the breeder behind Shadow Acres located in Inman, SC. We are obsessed with our dogs. They are our loyal friends, our comfort, and entertainment! We love Bernese Mountain Dogs because of their calm personality and sweet personalities with our kids. We want to be able to share them with other families that will love them the way that we do!

  • Why did you start breeding?

    We love our dogs so much and want everyone else to experience the amazing love a dog can give.

  • What makes your program special?

    We go the extra mile making sure our dogs are healthy. All parents are OFA tested. We do ENS on all of our puppies and work hard to socialize them so they are gentle with kids and other dogs. Our door is always open so if for any reason the owners do not want them anymore they are always welcome back with us. None of our dogs will be in a shelter.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our Bernese Mountain Dog puppies are tri-color. Golden Retriever puppies are golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Caitlyn

Caitlyn has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Caitlyn partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape.

“We place our puppies with their families once ENS has been completed and we’ve had a few weeks to assess each puppy’s temperament. From there, we match families with the puppy that best fits what they’re looking for, while also considering their preferred gender.”

Price

Puppy prices include a $400 non-refundable deposit and $2,400 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“This price guarantees- limited AKC registration, up to date deworming, vaccinations, microchipping, and socialization. All of our puppies are the same price, regardless of size, color, and gender.”

Contract & health guarantee

Caitlyn may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.   • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1B), Bernese Mountain Dog Type, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), von Willebrand Disease I (vWD I)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

    The. Best. Experience! Caitlyn was responsive with detailed, caring and timely answers to inquiries. The process was seamless from the beginning. Communications were on point. The finances were smooth (any questions with Good Dog, Caitlyn was responsive for help and guidance). Caitlyn met me with the puppy at a public and appropriate place. She did not let anyone touch the puppy prior to offering the pup to me (everyone wants to pet a puppy!) which showed a full attention to the needs of the puppy and to me during transition. Caitlyn brought records, microchip information and tag, a heartbeat puppy with the litter's scent, the material that the puppies were potty training on, puppy pads for the trip home, and the collar. Caitlyn was lovely and perfectly interactive (not too much and not too little). Caitlyn is sweet and kind, a family person, and LOVES LOVES LOVES her dogs! Caitlyn's daughter and I shared interest in the puppy I chose and I have shared pictures with the family since bringing my darling Daisy home (to which Caitlyn has still shown interest and care in communications).
