I'm Caitlyn H., the breeder behind Shadow Acres located in Inman, SC. We are obsessed with our dogs. They are our loyal friends, our comfort, and entertainment! We love Bernese Mountain Dogs because of their calm personality and sweet personalities with our kids. We want to be able to share them with other families that will love them the way that we do!
Q. & A. with Caitlyn
Why did you start breeding?
We love our dogs so much and want everyone else to experience the amazing love a dog can give.
What makes your program special?
We go the extra mile making sure our dogs are healthy. All parents are OFA tested. We do ENS on all of our puppies and work hard to socialize them so they are gentle with kids and other dogs. Our door is always open so if for any reason the owners do not want them anymore they are always welcome back with us. None of our dogs will be in a shelter.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our Golden Retriever puppies are golden. Bernese Mountain Dog puppies are tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Stella, mom
Bernese Mountain Dog
About Stella
Stella is one of the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet! With her gentle nature and love for snuggling, she’s happiest when spending time with our kids or standing between our legs in the yard. 🤣 Stella has stunning markings, and the most crystal-clear eyes that will melt your heart.
Stella is clear for both Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) and von Willebrand’s Disease. Her OFA results also came back with normal hips and elbows, giving you peace of mind about her puppies long term health.
Piper, mom
Golden Retriever
About Piper
Meet Piper, our beautiful golden girl and the very first dog we welcomed into our breeding program here at Shadow Acres. We've had Piper since she was just 8 weeks old, and for the past three years, she’s grown up alongside our four children—becoming not just a companion, but a beloved member of our family. Piper is incredibly fast and athletic, full of playful energy, and always ready for an adventure. At the same time, she’s deeply affectionate and absolutely adores being the center of attention. She is AKC registered, has passed her OFA elbow evaluation, and received an Excellent rating on her hips—a true testament to her strong genetics. This upcoming litter will be her first, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to see her step into this new chapter. Piper brings joy wherever she goes, and we know she’ll pass on her wonderful temperament and beauty to her puppies.
Babs, mom
Bernese Mountain Dog
About Babs
Babs is an amazing dog with a goofy personality that never fails to bring a smile to my face. She is a food lover with a stubborn side, always following me around like a little shadow. Despite her playful quirks, she is incredibly gentle and loving. This is Babs last litter. She is the best devoted and nurturing mother, making every moment with her truly special.

Caitlyn was wonderful throughout the process. She provided me with frequent updates and photos of Jessie as we were waiting for Jessie’s 8 week birthday. Her husband delivered her to the airport where we began our journey together. Jessie is absolutely beautiful and we are so happy she is with us
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
