I'm Caitlyn H., the breeder behind Shadow Acres located in Inman, SC. We are obsessed with our dogs. They are our loyal friends, our comfort, and entertainment! We love Bernese Mountain Dogs because of their calm personality and sweet personalities with our kids. We want to be able to share them with other families that will love them the way that we do!

Why did you start breeding?
We love our dogs so much and want everyone else to experience the amazing love a dog can give.What makes your program special?
We go the extra mile making sure our dogs are healthy. All parents are OFA tested. We do ENS on all of our puppies and work hard to socialize them so they are gentle with kids and other dogs. Our door is always open so if for any reason the owners do not want them anymore they are always welcome back with us. None of our dogs will be in a shelter.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our Golden Retriever puppies are golden. Bernese Mountain Dog puppies are tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?

About Piper
Meet Piper, our beautiful golden girl and the very first dog we welcomed into our breeding program here at Shadow Acres. We've had Piper since she was just 8 weeks old, and for the past three years, she’s grown up alongside our four children—becoming not just a companion, but a beloved member of our family. Piper is incredibly fast and athletic, full of playful energy, and always ready for an adventure. At the same time, she’s deeply affectionate and absolutely adores being the center of attention. She is AKC registered, has passed her OFA elbow evaluation, and received an Excellent rating on her hips—a true testament to her strong genetics. This upcoming litter will be her first, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to see her step into this new chapter. Piper brings joy wherever she goes, and we know she’ll pass on her wonderful temperament and beauty to her puppies.

Babs is an amazing dog with a goofy personality that never fails to bring a smile to my face. She is a food lover with a stubborn side, always following me around like a little shadow. Despite her playful quirks, she is incredibly gentle and loving. This is Babs last litter. She is the best devoted and nurturing mother, making every moment with her truly special.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1B), Bernese Mountain Dog Type, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), von Willebrand Disease I (vWD I)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

+8The. Best. Experience! Caitlyn was responsive with detailed, caring and timely answers to inquiries. The process was seamless from the beginning. Communications were on point. The finances were smooth (any questions with Good Dog, Caitlyn was responsive for help and guidance). Caitlyn met me with the puppy at a public and appropriate place. She did not let anyone touch the puppy prior to offering the pup to me (everyone wants to pet a puppy!) which showed a full attention to the needs of the puppy and to me during transition. Caitlyn brought records, microchip information and tag, a heartbeat puppy with the litter's scent, the material that the puppies were potty training on, puppy pads for the trip home, and the collar. Caitlyn was lovely and perfectly interactive (not too much and not too little). Caitlyn is sweet and kind, a family person, and LOVES LOVES LOVES her dogs! Caitlyn's daughter and I shared interest in the puppy I chose and I have shared pictures with the family since bringing my darling Daisy home (to which Caitlyn has still shown interest and care in communications). I am fortunate to have found Shadow Acres and Caitlyn, her family, and her dogs! I am looking into a 2nd pup with Caitlyn's dogs!
