Meet the breeder

I'm Caitlyn H., the breeder behind Shadow Acres located in Inman, SC. We are obsessed with our dogs. They are our loyal friends, our comfort, and entertainment! We love Bernese Mountain Dogs because of their calm personality and sweet personalities with our kids. We want to be able to share them with other families that will love them the way that we do!

Q. & A. with Caitlyn

  • Why did you start breeding?

We love our dogs so much and want everyone else to experience the amazing love a dog can give.

  • What makes your program special?

We go the extra mile making sure our dogs are healthy. All parents are OFA tested. We do ENS on all of our puppies and work hard to socialize them so they are gentle with kids and other dogs. Our door is always open so if for any reason the owners do not want them anymore they are always welcome back with us. None of our dogs will be in a shelter.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Bernese Mountain Dog puppies are tri-color. Golden Retriever puppies are golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

We had a wonderful experience with Caitlyn and Shadow Acres from start to finish. From the very beginning, Caitlyn was incredibly patient and helpful. We had a lot of questions, and she always took the time to answer them. She was also very open about Gryphon’s parents, their health testing, and what we could expect from the process. One of the things we appreciated most was how connected she kept us while we were waiting to bring him home. Every Sunday, she sent us pictures and videos of Gryphon, along with updates about his development, personality, and what the puppies had been doing that week. Because of all the updates, by pickup day, we felt like we already knew him. We also loved that Gryphon spent his first eight weeks being raised in Caitlyn’s home with her family. Because he was already accustomed to children and normal household life, his transition into our family went really smoothly. Caitlyn also really helpful when it came time for pickup and even met us in Charlotte to make our drive easier. Throughout the entire process she was extremely thoughtful and responsive. Most importantly, Gryphon has been everything we hoped for. He is a little teddy bear with a wonderful disposition. He has only been home for a few days, but he already feels completely at home with our family. We could not be happier with Gryphon or with our experience with Shadow Acres.

Caitlyn was so nice and knowledgeable. Her family did an amazing job preparing the puppies for their new homes. Brody (Valentino) is amazing with our kids. He is well mannered and smart. We are so happy with him and couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

We had a wonderful experience with Caitlyn! Our Bernese Mountain Dog puppy, originally named Angel and now named Clara, has been an amazing addition to our family. Caitlyn is knowledgeable, responsive, and clearly cares about the health and well-being of her puppies. Our Bernese, Clara, is sweet, friendly, and has brought so much joy into our lives. We appreciated the updates and support throughout the process and would highly recommend Caitlyn and her family to anyone looking for a Bernese Mountain Dog.

The. Best. Experience! Caitlyn was responsive with detailed, caring and timely answers to inquiries. The process was seamless from the beginning. Communications were on point. The finances were smooth (any questions with Good Dog, Caitlyn was responsive for help and guidance). Caitlyn met me with the puppy at a public and appropriate place. She did not let anyone touch the puppy prior to offering the pup to me (everyone wants to pet a puppy!) which showed a full attention to the needs of the puppy and to me during transition. Caitlyn brought records, microchip information and tag, a heartbeat puppy with the litter's scent, the material that the puppies were potty training on, puppy pads for the trip home, and the collar. Caitlyn was lovely and perfectly interactive (not too much and not too little). Caitlyn is sweet and kind, a family person, and LOVES LOVES LOVES her dogs! Caitlyn's daughter and I shared interest in the puppy I chose and I have shared pictures with the family since bringing my darling Daisy home (to which Caitlyn has still shown interest and care in communications). I am fortunate to have found Shadow Acres and Caitlyn, her family, and her dogs! I am looking into a 2nd pup with Caitlyn's dogs! Thank you Caitlyn for bringing the highest form of joy to our family (unconditional love and happiness) with the assurance of a great and loving breeder! :)
