I'm Craig H., the breeder behind Shepherd Park Kennels located in Silver Spring, MD. Welcome to Shepherd Park Jack Russell Terriers. We are a registered kennel and are active members of the JRTCA (Jack Russell Terrier Club of America) We have been working, showing, and breeding these great little dogs since 2018 even though I have owned the breed for over 20 years. We strive for the ultimate athletic terrier that is naturally flexible, Intelligent enough to do his job, yet are beloved companions. Shepherd Park terriers meet strict standards of the JRTCA. Our breeding stock is DNA tested for Primary Lens Luxation, (PLL), Spinocerebellar Ataxia, (SCA), and Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) Normal. They are also evaluated annually by a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist for the Canine Eye Registration Foundation, (CERF), and each has been tested and is normal for Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER). That sounds like a lot of big words and tests but they are extremely important to us and to the future of the breed. These are important tests to ask of any breeder.

Why did you start breeding?
I have owned Jack Russell Terriers for over 20 years. I was fortunate to purchase a quality Female from West Elk Terriers 4 years ago. My goal was to maintain the standards of the JRTCA. As a Representative of the JRT it is my responsibility to expand the knowledge to all that want to know about the breed. There is a mantel that has been established of Legendary Jack Russell Terriers and their owners that I plan to maintain within my Breeding program.What makes your program special?
We take the responsibility of breeding very seriously at Shepherd Park. Any terrier entering our breeding program has been carefully selected for natural working ability, correct conformation, and steady temperament. They must have proven these attributes in the hunt field, in the show ring, and in our home.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include tan and white and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

“Price includes a non-refundable $100 deposit (unless other arrangements have been made in advance). **Please note that I do not accept deposits until I have approved your application** Upon our acceptance of your reservation, Puppies go to their forever homes at 8 weeks of age. They will have tails docked, dewclaws removed, de-wormed, 1st and 2nd vaccination. Puppies are trained to use litter box/pads/paper and will be started in the crate. Our puppies will come with: Purchase Agreement/Health Guarantee Health Record Dr. Tims food sample and feeding instructions Four Generation Pedigree Stud Service Certificate JRTCA Breed Information Pamphlet/Application for Membership Reading materials on Imprinting and Bonding . Shepherd Park Jack Russell Terriers requires a $100 Deposit for all potential JR Owners.”

Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
