Meet the breeder

I'm Nicole N., the breeder behind SkyBlue Kennel located in Clintwood, VA. We aim to produce healthy, well-rounded, competitive, athletic dogs who are true to the AKC breed standard. Our focus has always been on the White Rock and Ruffian lines, which have proven themselves with longevity, versatility, and health. Our puppies make fantastic family companions who are up for anything their owners may ask of them whether it be in the conformation ring or mountain hiking. Our puppies have successfully competed in conformation, barn hunt, agility, and more!

Q. & A. with Nicole

  • Why did you start breeding?

We fell in love with the breed over 20 years ago. When we went to meet a breeder she talked us into co-owning the dog and letting her show him. We then started delving deeper by studying the different lines and the attributes of each. We followed our hearts and decided to start our own breeding program under the SkyBlue prefix.
  • What makes your program special?

Before we started breeding, we spent countless hours studying pedigrees and lines. We gravitated towards the White Rock and Ruffian lines and are one of a small handful of breeders who have worked to perpetuate them here in the US. We have had the pleasure of working with breeders in Europe and Mexico in order to keep these lines going. We do not follow show fads but stay true to our vision. It would be our pleasure to help you find your dream dog!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include fawn, white, red brindle, red, fawn brindle, blue fawn brindle, blue fawn, blue brindle, blue, black brindle, and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.
