I'm Sherry L., the breeder behind Smiling Acres located in Monmouth, ME. Our mission is to be an ethical Australian Shepherd breeder while promoting this amazing breed by maintaining their health, unique nature, temperament and personal characteristics. We strive to provide top quality dogs, with the main focus on excellent temperaments, to loving families and service homes throughout the country.

Why did you start breeding?
My breeding mentor was my inspiration. I got my first Aussie several years ago. I have had dogs my whole life and could not imagine living without my fur-babies!What makes your program special?
Our Australian Shepherds have been genetically tested and cleared through PawPrint Genetics Lab and Embark. We personally guarantee a happy and healthy puppy. It is strongly encouraged to continue proper nutrition through our premium pet food partnership. As an Avidog Associate Breeder, I have committed to raising my pups using scientifically sound, ethical breeding and puppy-rearing methods, along with a lot of love and kisses.What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Miniature Australian Shepherd puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Miniature Australian Shepherd puppies include blue merle, black tri, and red merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

“All puppies are priced for $2000. Breeding rights are additional upon discretion. Deposits are required to reserve puppy. Deposits will be returned if we do not have what you are seeking, after the puppies are born. Puppy selections are determined in order of deposits and contracts received.”

Litter update on 10 July 2025 •…Vet visit went great yesterday. All puppies passed their wellness exams and received first vaccinations and microchips. 4 little cuties head off to their new families tomorrow. Lumi will remain here for an additional week and Mr Beam is still looking for his forever home.

Litter update on 19 June 2025 •Puppies will be 5 weeks old tomorrow and showing their affectionate little personalities already. They continue to learn from mom and auntie dogs around them but also gaining their own confidence more and more each day. Such a sweet, fun, and playful litter.

Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Full Embark Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

Sherry is a responsible and responsive breeder who kept us updated on our puppy and the litter throughout its gestation and birth. When selecting the puppy, she was mindful of each puppy’s personality and the needs of each family. She was very transparent when she thought a puppy may not be a good fit (for example: a puppy that was needier than average) and directed me to one’s that fit my lifestyle (Puppy X would not be great for hikes but Puppy Y shows more energy.) The Volhard Puppy assessment and recommendation she provided has helped me develop a training plan for my puppy. She has also set up a community so we can connect with other families who have also purchased a puppy from her. We are able to commiserate and ask questions/advice from other owners and it has been a huge lifesaver. (Crate training is hard and the encouragement of others who went through the same experience was really valuable). Sherry very clearly cares about her dogs and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an Aussie. I learned so much from her and the community she has set up.

Smiling Acres is top notch. Sherry kept us abreast of Echos development and promptly screened our application so we were able to meet up and get our lively lovable girl. It has been such a great experience working with you and preparing to get our new puppy. It is very clear that you take great pride in your dogs. Frisco is polite, well adjusted and just a love. He traveled home happily and just snuggled in and made himself right at home once we got to the house. He already knows to go to the door to go outside! Thank you for the background info as far as feeding and sleep schedules, it made the transition easy.
