Meet the breeder

I'm Heidi E., the breeder behind Sonnenfeld Shepherds located in Grand Junction, CO. We breed exquisite black and red German Shepherds from world class Sieger lines. We never go a day without a Shepherd by our side — whether we’re hiking, parenting, or simply living life. They’re part of our rhythm, our joy, and our sense of home. I wouldn't trade it for the world!

Q. & A. with Heidi

  • Why did you start breeding?

I’ve been working with dogs for over 25 years, I've been passionate about raising German Shepherds since 2014. I’ve seen how brilliant they are...how they bond, protect, and bring so much joy to families. That’s why I’m passionate about breeding healthy, emotionally-stable German Shepherds from proven Sieger lines. I'm confident you'll adore one of our loyal companions for many years to come.
  • What makes your program special?

Our German Shepherds are with us through every big and small moment. They snuggle with toddlers, hike the trails, and sleep on my bed. Our puppies grow up in the same loving environment. From day one, we nurture and care for them using the gold standard in early socialization. I give them a remarkable head start on emotional intelligence and resilience, so they’re ready to thrive with you.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have stock coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black and tan and black and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Heidi shared updates and photos of the puppies often. It really helped me feel attached to them. It also helped me choose which puppy I wanted. I also appreciated the contract and the way Heidi opened her home to us. It was so very gracious. It allowed us the time to choose the right puppy for us. I also loved the gift she gave us for Teddy and that she met me halfway to drop off the puppy. Thank you for everything!!!

Our sweet puppy, Josie, is beautiful and healthy. She has a very calm energy and demeanor. Heidi did a wonderful job preparing her for our family, and for that we are so thankful. We were also at ease through the entire process, knowing that Josie and her siblings were being loved and cared for in a wonderful family setting. I have nothing but good to say about our entire experience. Thank you Heidi!
