Why did you start breeding?
I’ve been working with dogs for over 25 years, I've been passionate about raising German Shepherds since 2014. I’ve seen how brilliant they are...how they bond, protect, and bring so much joy to families. That’s why I’m passionate about breeding healthy, emotionally-stable German Shepherds from proven Sieger lines. I'm confident you'll adore one of our loyal companions for many years to come.What makes your program special?
Our German Shepherds are with us through every big and small moment. They snuggle with toddlers, hike the trails, and sleep on my bed. Our puppies grow up in the same loving environment. From day one, we nurture and care for them using the gold standard in early socialization. I give them a remarkable head start on emotional intelligence and resilience, so they’re ready to thrive with you.What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Program update on 25 Feb •…This guy was the celebrity of Petco last weekend. He's getting some additional training in his bid for therapy dog work. He met a woman using a wheelchair and her son who was about 1 years old. The little boy pet him and he rolled with the new experience of medical support equipment like a pro.

Litter update on 26 Jan •…Sadie met a dairy goat for the first time today! She smelled her with interest while giving her the space she wanted. Gentle introductions like these introduce the idea of farm life, which can be helpful for families who want help from a German Shepherd. Her first instincts were to be curious and to follow my lead. This is a great age to stretch a puppy's sense of what's possible and acceptable. By the time summer comes, they'll know how to keep up with whatever outdoor plans are on the schedule.

Litter update on 18 Jan •…Our puppies can't help but learn early to filter out the chaos of living with three small children. They adapt quick and learn to ignore the traffic whizzing by and smells galore. Instead, you see Rebecca focusing on who she loves well. If you look closely, you’ll see Rebecca gently kissing Maggie’s fingers when she offers a treat.

Ruby shines as a working therapy dog Her lineage comes from some of the top Sieger winning West German Show Line bloodlines who are known for their exceptional structure, work ethic, and soundness. Ruby has the ideal balance of strength, intelligence, and calm, loving temperament. She is everything that has made the German Shepherd iconic. At home, Ruby is incredibly loyal and intuitive. She’s always tuned in to our family, especially our kids, and seems to know exactly when someone needs comfort. Her steady, gentle nature makes her both a nurturer and a protector. When she’s not raising puppies, Ruby works as an active therapy dog. She visits children and Hospice patients, offering emotional support and connection. Her presence brings calm wherever she goes. Cooper is a striking male with a clear-head and family-oriented temperament. He has an easygoing, gentle nature. We love having him in our home. He is confident yet the most affectionate. His father is a VA1 Sieger winner in the USA. His mother is a VA5 Sieger winner also. Cooper is DM-clear, and structurally sound, with hip and elbow evaluations consistent with what you'd expect from elite European imports. He embodies the type of dog we believe in breeding: one whose beauty is matched by health, intelligence, and a stable temperament. We believe his puppies will thrive in families who are active, farmer/ranchers, and who want nothing less than the very best. Whether you're looking for a lifelong companion, a personal protection prospect, or a structurally correct show-line dog, Cooper passes on qualities that are consistent with everything you've love about the iconic German Shepherd.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

We cannot say enough good things about your experience with Heidi and Sonnenfeld Shepherds! We just picked up our puppy, Cash, and have had him for 3 days now. From the moment I reached out to Heidi, she has been so great to work with - very responsive, sharing updates with me, photos, and videos, even hopping on the phone when I had questions. Every interaction was a breeze, including pick up. She continues to be available to us with any questions we may have, even after we picked up Cash. Cash is an exceptional puppy and we could not be happier with him. He has settled in seamlessly with our family and other pets. He is so smart, already learning 6 commands at just 9 weeks old! He loves his training more than anything, and is so eager to learn, it has been so fun to train him. He also came to our house crate trained, which has been extremely helpful to his new routine. He is so lovable and sweet, just truly a joy of a puppy. He is going to be an exceptional adult dog. And don't even get me started on how beautiful he is! We could not be happier with our experience with Heidi, and would recommend her to anyone looking for the perfect German Shepherd puppy. You will not be disappointed.

+4We had such a wonderful experience working with Heidi. She was quick to respond, incredibly helpful, and supportive throughout the entire process from start to finish. She recommended our puppy (originally named Rebecca, now Riley) specifically because of her temperament and how well she would fit with our family, including our 1-year-old—and she was exactly right. We’ve always chosen female German Shepherds because, in our experience, they tend to have a more loyal, calmer demeanor while still being confident and protective. German Shepherds are such an amazing breed—naturally protective, very family-centered, and they don’t tend to stray far from their people. They’re also incredibly intelligent and easy to train, which makes them a great fit for our home. Riley has adapted to her new environment so quickly and has been an absolute joy. She already knew to go outside to use the bathroom and even came to us already knowing how to sit! She is incredibly smart and learns so fast—it’s honestly amazing to see. I have always wanted a German Shepherd. It was my dream dog. It never seemed to work out until I met Heidi. She was amazing through the whole process. She kept me up to date on every step. She made sure Cooper was top-notch with testing through a vet before she even bred Ruby. She sent updates throughout the pregnancy and after. Heidi's hard work and love for these animals is so apparent with this litter. I chose Willow who is now Freya. Freya is absolutely amazing. She was so easy to potty train. I am working on sit and stay. She is so smart! She picks the training up so quickly! I was so amazed when I took Freya outside to potty one evening, and she saw my shadow. She knew this was something she had never seen before and barked with a little growl to alert me that something wasn't right. I was so amazed and proud of her at the same time. I am excited to spend the rest of my life with Freya. You can tell that Heidi puts all of her love and knowledge into her litters. I can never thank you enough for everything Heidi.
