Meet the breeder

I'm Sara G., the breeder behind Southern Charm Bernese located in Fitzgerald, GA. Our dogs have all been DNA tested and have OFA certified hips, elbows, eyes, heart, and patellas. They are clear of all genetic diseases.

Q. & A. with Sara

  • Why did you start breeding?

Growing up my parents started a pet resort. During the summers my sister and I would work there and being surrounded by dogs was the best. That’s where I met my first Bernese Mountain Dog and it was love at first sight. From there I slowly started to learn about the breed. I have spent a lot of time around breeding mentors and saw what was needed to properly breed dogs.
  • What makes your program special?

All of my dogs meet the breed standard. I breed for health and nature for temperament. All my dogs have been health tested and come from health tested lines. They live in my house and the puppies are also raised in our house. I have a wonderful relationship with my vet.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black tan and white and black rust and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Sara was so responsive and knowledgeable about the breed. She goes above and beyond as a breeder to help you with any questions and concerns before, during and after you bring home your forever new friend. We found Sara through Good dog and it was a blessing, we couldn’t have asked for a better dog than our girl Wren formerly “Cindy Lou”. She came home and settled in quickly and I think that was due to the training and work Sara put in before we received our new puppy. Wren will be 2 years old in October 2024 and she has no signs of any genetic issues or health concerns. She is healthy and thriving at 93lbs. We have stayed in contact with Sara over the years and kept her updated and if I had any questions about changing her food or giving her the best care or supplements she has always responded. Wren was our first Bernese so we had a lot of questions over the years and she has been there every step of the way. We will definitely use Sara again for our next Bernese which in my opinion is the best breed if you love endless cuddles and affection.
