I'm Stacy A., the breeder behind Southern City Bassets located in Talbotton, GA. We are passionate about the health and well-being of this breed. All of our dogs are tested for the main diseases known to bassets and proven to be clear. It is our goal to provide each dog that comes from our program with a solid foundation of good health, neurological development, and loving care. We expose puppies to children and livestock in order to create well rounded puppies that will make perfect family pets.
Q. & A. with Stacy
Why did you start breeding?
I got my first basset hound six years ago when my Akita passed away. My husband and I had five children and were searching for a family friendly breed. Something that would tolerate the endless energy of our house without adding to it. We settled on a basset and fell in love. The first one quickly found us the need to have a second one (they are pack dogs you know) and thus our breeding program was born. I quickly began to be interested in the dog show world and started gearing our program toward wonderful family pets who could also compete in the show ring.
What makes your program special?
Our program focuses on the well rounded dog that will make the perfect family pet. We expose all of our pups to children and adults, livestock, and the daily noises of farm life. We have tried to incorporate several different lineages to create wonderful dogs who hopefully inherit the best each bloodline has to offer. Our pups are born in our home and stay there for the first three weeks so that we can keep a constant eye on them. Once they are mobile, they move to our climate controlled "puppy palace" where they have access to indoor/outdoor runs to start their training.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Price
Puppy prices include a $200 deposit and between $1,000 - $1,800 final payment, before taxes & fees.
“Prices on litters vary depending on the parentage. Some of our lines focus more solidly on wonderful pet puppies and these litters are lower priced and only allow limited registration. Other litters come from show parents and are offered at a higher rate because of their potential for the show ring. All puppies come up to date on vaccinations and deworming along with their registration application. In order to hold a certain puppy, we do ask for a deposit. This deposit lets us know you are serious about your puppy and willing to wait until they are old enough to join your family. Deposits are non-refundable except in a few situations.”

I'm so glad we found Stacy when we decided to expand our pet family. Stacy is an exceptional and knowledgeable breeder who was very responsive through the whole process, invited me to come and meet the puppies and their parents before purchasing, and did a wonderful job of socializing the puppies from an early age. Our basset hound Hank, who we got from Stacy, is such a happy, healthy, well-rounded puppy that fit right into our family. I highly recommend Stacy and her program if you're looking to add a basset to your family!

Our family had a great experience working with Stacy to connect us with our sweet Puppy, Patsy. She answered all of our questions and was informative and responded quickly. I could tell that she really cared about her bassets which helped ease our minds while we waited until it was time to pick up our baby. We looked forward to getting updates and photos of our pup as we waited but the pictures did not do her justice. This is the sweetest puppy and she has integrated so well with our 2 children, older dog, and cat and has had a successful start to crate and potty training. We would do it again in a heartbeat! 10/10

Velma has been a perfect addition to our home. She adjusted very quickly and our vet was impressed. She travels great and never meets a stranger. Sir Duke is a remarkable puppy he's extremely intelligent , playful and handsome companion for an old truck driver so far Duke has been to 11 new states in his travels. From Georgia all the way to San Diego. This pup might be a Bassett but he's really an Attention Hound 😆. Always getting admirers wanting to pet him and touch his big floppy ears . All I can say is that he has filled the void left by my old traveling buddy Buster who left me way to soon. I look forward to him and me adventuring out on the road for many years to come. Thank you Miss Stacy for talking me into getting him.
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
