I'm Jessi S., the breeder behind Southern Roux Samoyeds located in Lafayette, LA. Growing up, my family bred Akitas, which sparked my lifelong passion for responsible breeding. My passion deepened when I welcomed Kaya, my Samoyed, into my life. Her exceptional temperament and friendliness made me fall in love with the Samoyed breed and inspired me to start Southern Roux. In our program, we carefully select dogs that reflect the breed’s classic look to produce puppies with fluffy white coats, expressive faces, and strong, balanced builds. All breeding dogs are from champion bloodlines and undergo comprehensive health testing. Puppies are raised in our home as family. Follow our socials to learn more!
Q. & A. with Jessi
Why did you start breeding?
My family bred Akitas growing up. I loved the whole process and caring for the puppies. Akitas are a bit more aggressive than I am comfortable with, so I found the Samoyed breed. Their friendly spirits fit my personality perfectly, so I have always had a dream of starting a small Samoyed program to carry on the family tradition and utilize my passion for dogs in a way that I can share with others.
What makes your program special?
All of our dogs are raised in home as family. We use science-based methods, such as Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), Early Scent Introduction (ESI), and desensitization exercises to promote emotional resilience and prepare puppies for diverse environments. We follow the Misty Method for early life potty training. We perform aptitude testing on our puppies to help fit them with the right home.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Kaya
A whole lot of sweet and little bit sassy, Kaya is so much fun to be around. She loves to cuddle as much as she loves walks and treats. She has a great temperament, staying calm in over stimulating situations. She will roo and talk to us to let us know what she wants, and has learned to keep her barking to a minimum. Great with children and other dogs alike, we never have to worry how Kaya will react in any environment. She will surely pass on her intelligence and manners to her puppies. She has amazing stamina for long backpacking trips, loves to go skijoring, and also appreciates a chill day at the house. She is most happy being with her family, and does get separation anxiety when we are away. Being in public with Kaya is like being with a celebrity. She gets all the attention and loves every bit of it.

Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Great level
Southern Roux Samoyeds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Samoyeds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
