I'm April N., the breeder behind Spartan German Shepherds located in Missoula, MT. Spartan is dedicated to raising world-class working line GSDs. Our program focuses on producing loyal, confident, & well-socialized dogs that thrive as loving family companions while maintaining strong protective instincts & working ability. Why did you start breeding?
Spartan was conceived in 2010, following a home invasion that put our family in extreme danger. I purchased our first stud, Blitz, shortly thereafter. He was large, dark, and very intimidating, but had a lover's soul and bonded to each member of the family tightly. Blitz turned heads wherever he went, and with the purchase of our first dam, Taija, Spartan Shepherds was born.

We believe there is no better dog to be man's best friend & protector. This belief has fueled our commitment & passion to raise truly incredible dogs, & bring Europe's finest to your home. Our dogs will impress & inspire, combining intelligence, health, desire to please, loyalty, fearlessness, courage, athleticism, & beauty into one incredible, remarkable experience: Beauty, Power, & Soul!
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies include stock, plush, and long coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include sable, black, and black and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

Getting a puppy from April

April has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

After buyers complete the application and screening process, April partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“Puppies are matched to their new families once their temperments can be assessed, usually around 6 weeks.”

Price

Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit and between $2,000 - $4,500 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“The price includes our hip and health guarantee, AKC registration, age appropriate vaccinations and deworming and extensive puppy socialization. Deposits are non refundable, but can be transferred to a different puppy in the litter.”

April may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. About Kobe
Kobe is my favorite male that I have ever owned, and as long as I've been doing this, that's saying something! He is the perfect house dog, and sleeps by my bed every night looking after our family. Kobe is an absolutely stunning European imported boy! He is large, heavy boned, with a beautiful head and the most gorgeous coat you'll ever find. He is an easy dog to handle and work, always eager to please with an almost puppy-like exhuberance. His focus is 100% on his people, and he prefers to be glued to our side, whether it's working outside, or laying by our feet inside. He has perfect house manners, and is a total gentleman. He has high prey and ball drive and loves to play ball, yet leaves our cats and chickens completely alone, very rare in a working GSD! Kobe absolutely loves belly rubs and as much attention as possible. And take a look at his pedigree, wow! His sire is the world famous, Fant Jirkova Dvora, a legend who is still competing and making his mark in GSD history! His dam is also an incredible dog titled to the very highest level possible and still competing as well. Every dog in his pedigree is titled, every one. Not only that, every dog comes from world champion bloodlines, and are all fully health tested! Kobe is not only extremely impressive, drop dead gorgeous, but he is also the sweetest family companion you could ever ask for. We are proud to have him as our foundation stud here at Spartan!

About Nova
Nova is one of the most gorgeous females I've ever seen. She is a silky soft, plush coat girl, with deep, rich black sable coloring. She is stunning! She is very attentive and tuned in to her people. She lives in the house with us and loves to be curled up at our side watching a movie, or just keeping an eye on the happenings. Nova is good with other dogs and also with cats, rare in a GSD. She absolutely loves water and going swimming. Her pedigree is full of European champions, she has such famous dogs on her papers as Gomo Aites Bohemia (Zvv2, ZPO1, SCHHA, SCHH2, FPR2, IPO3, ZMT, T2, OPT1), Dux vom Mountainlake (certified dual purpose police K9), Trojan von der Staatschmact (SCHH3, IPO3), Hank vom Weinbergblick (3 time world champion qualifier and competetitor (2012, 2013, 2014), 2012 Sieger, BSP2x300P, IPO3, SCHH3), Jago Jipo Me (Zvv2, IPO3, SCHH3, world champion qualifier and competetitor 2011), Galant z Pohranicni Straze (SVV3, IPO1 SCHH3), as well as numerous other highly trained and titled dogs! Her pedigree is the perfect mix of DDR and Czech, melding the drive of the Czech dogs with the bone structure, size, pigment, and focus of the DDR dogs. Nova has also been tested clear of over 100 diseases! We expect her pups to be the perfect embodiment of everything that a GSD should be, and to excel as home protectors and companions.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Vet Wellness Exam, Temperament Test
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
