Meet the breeder

I'm Mike W., the breeder behind Still River Saints located in Connecticut. We breed selectively with a focus on Health, Temperament and Conformation. Saint Bernards are very large working dogs with specific needs. We thoroughly screen all potential homes. Our dogs are well socialized and live with children in our home. We actively shown in AKC Conformation and participate in breed events around the Northeast US.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    We take breeding very seriously. We actively showed in AKC and participated in our breed clubs for several years before breeding. We learned from some amazing long time preservation breeders who still mentor us today…before deciding to breed. Breeding is so much more than putting 2 dogs together.

  • What makes your program special?

    We provide lifetime support to all of our puppies and their families. All of our Saints are sound in temperament and live with children. Temperament is hallmark for us. We stand behind any puppy we produce and want them to excel in their homes. References are always available from previous puppy families.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Mike

Mike has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Mike partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 8 weeks old.

Price

Puppy prices include a $750 refundable deposit that secures a spot in a litter. The remaining $2,750 is due before pickup, plus applicable taxes and fees.

“Price includes first set of vaccines, microchip and health check. Deposit transferable to next litter or refunded per our contract. Please inquire prior to making deposit for a copy of contract.”

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

    Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Brucellosis

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Full Embark Panel, Juvenile Laryngeal Paralysis & Polyneuropathy (JLPP), Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

    What I can say about Mike from Still River Saints is he has given us a great experience! When we found Still River Saints on Good Dog we msged Mike to inquire about available puppies. He had a litter however they were all spoken for. We then asked for a phone call with Mike to ask about his Saints and when there might b a litter we could apply for. We talked for quite awhile and got so much information about his breeding program and the qualities he breeds for. It was a great conversation and we almost immediately sent a deposit for the next litter of puppies. We now have the sweetest friendliest big puppy. She is a very happy, healthy, smart, well adjusted girl named Paislie. We would definitely recommend Still River Saints to anyone wanting a saint Bernard.
