Meet the breeder

I'm Janel H., the breeder behind Stonebridge Swissies located in Reinholds, PA. We are very concerned with both the health and structure of our dogs along with their temperament. We are a small breeder whose dogs come from champion bloodlines, are AKC reg, DNA tested, and have their OFA clearances. However, most importantly, they are our beloved pets and members of the family.

Q. & A. with Janel

  • What makes your program special?

We are not interested in becoming a high-production breeder nor are we a low-quality "back-yard breeder". Instead, we only have two Swissies, one of which is retired, so that we can pour our time and effort into each puppy.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Great level

Stonebridge Swissies reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
