Breeder-Reported Testing
Good level
Stoneridge Ridgebacks reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

Our experience with Maura was excellent. Her communication was very prompt with quick turnaround. She was extremely helpful throughout the entire process and made it easy for us to pick up the puppy. Her home is where the puppies are and it was very clean but what we loved the most was that the whole Ridgeback gang was there to greet us! We have enjoyed our first few weeks with Wrigley and have received lots of compliments on how beautiful he is. He is adjusting well to his new home, and we look forward to many years with him and the rest of our family dogs. Thank you so much Maura!

I couldn't be happier with my experience and my puppy! Maura was so great and helpful throughout the whole process and helped me pick a great dog.
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
