Meet the breeder

I'm Summer L., the breeder behind Summer Sun Doodles located in California City, CA. Our dogs are bred to have top qualities that all families want in their puppies, such as compassion, patience, and love! We are dedicated to always providing our buyers and our puppies with a positive experience, which includes remaining committed to responsible practices when it comes to breeding.

Q. & A. with Summer

  • Why did you start breeding?

My brother was in a fatal car accident. A few months later, my other brother passed away from pneumonia. I was in a very dark place. I almost felt numb to everything. That next year I got my saving grace, Sonny. Sonny has helped me feel like my life is worth living. He's helped me through the darkest times and he's been there through the good times too! He is my SONSHINE.
  • What makes your program special?

We raise top quality puppies in a loving & caring home environment. All of our dogs are our family first. Their health and happiness comes before any breeding. Our litters are carefully planned & raised on an advanced service dog curriculum. We start all of our puppies on potty, crate and leash training. We complete temperament testing around 6/7 weeks old because it gives each puppy a voice.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies include miniature, medium, and standard sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include cream, apricot, red, black, phantom, and merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.

Our Adoption Experience with Summer: Milo When we first saw a picture of "Big Sur" (now Milo), it was love at first sight. The very first words out of my mouth were, "He’s mine!" From the moment I reached out, Summer was incredibly quick to respond. She patiently and thoroughly answered every single question I had—from his vaccine schedule and vet visits to daily updates on how he was doing. She knew his temperament and his unique qualities. She even gave us time meet him before the official adoption, which only made us fall in love with him more. You can tell how wonderful she is with her dogs. We got to meet all of them and they were so happy and playful. Milo is remarkably smart. He has already learned so many new commands and perfectly understands boundaries; he knows exactly when to tear it up outside like a fun puppy, and when to come inside to be docile, calm, and incredibly loving. He is hilarious and has a personality that just constantly wants to make you laugh. We will begin to train Milo to become a service dog soon and we know that he will be perfect for me. We believe that he has the temperament, traits, intelligence, and patience to become an awesome service dog. Summer was honest with us and said she believed Milo can do it. The ultimate reassurance came during our first visit to our own veterinarian for Milo's next round of vaccines. Our vet was impressed by Summer’s records, calling them some of the best documentation he had ever seen from a breeder. From the bottom of her heart, Summer said she felt that Big Sur and I have always belonged to each other—that we were meant to be, and the wait for us to finally find each other was completely worth it. Of course, his name is Milo now, though we also call him our little Roly Poly—but no matter his name, she saw right from the start that we were a perfect match. She said something to me that I will always hold in my heart: “I believe Big Sur and I were waiting for you.” I want to say that GoodDog is a great app to find your forever fur-baby. I had no problem communicating with the breeder. From meeting Milo to the payment transaction, everything was seamless. The heart truly knows what it wants, and we are just so incredibly grateful that you chose us to be in Milo’s life. Thank you, Summer.

Summer is the most caring, responsible and responsive breeder out there. This begins when you secure your spot to when your pup is home and she makes herself available to give you piece of mind with whatever your need is. We have two pups from her litter and they are calm and loved because of her. What she presents on social media is exactly what you see when you visit and the disposition of your dog proves that. Our pups are healthy and happy because of her.

We are incredibly thankful we found Summer! We had a bad experience with another breeder and were very hesitant to start our search again. From the first message we sent, Summer answered ALL of our many questions with honesty in a timely manner. She is incredibly passionate about her "babies" and cares about their health and temperament in a most impressive way. As a type A person, I appreciated her organization and enthusiasm, both in her home, her online presence, and in giving us all the info we needed to bring our puppy home. We will be recommending Summer Sun Doodles to all our friends and will be forever grateful for the perfect start our new "baby" received with her.
