I'm Summer O., the breeder behind Summer's Berners located in Earlham, IA. We’re proud of the healthy, affectionate, and behaviorally well-rounded puppies we raise for other families to love! We raise our litters with a curriculum to set the foundation for confident puppies to transition well into their forever homes. It’s a privilege to make an impact on each puppy!

Why did you start breeding?
I discovered the breed during a time in my life when I needed the unwavering devotion of a canine. The Berners brought a creative outlet for my passion, and I am enjoying making Berner friends in all corners of the country.What makes your program special?
Genetically health testing all dogs is a bare minimum at best for breeders these days. This breed is extremely social, and socialization is key to their success as an adult. Combine brains with the solid genetics, and you have a foundation for a lifelong partner.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are black rust and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1B), Bernese Mountain Dog Type, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), von Willebrand Disease I (vWD I), DNA Profile
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
