Meet the breeder

I'm Bryce G., the breeder behind Sunset Acres Setters located in Dayton, PA. We are a small, family-owned farm dedicated to breeding and raising high-spirited, AKC registered Irish Setters. Our dogs are cherished family members and spend their days joyfully running and playing through our expansive fields, embracing the active lifestyle the breed loves.

Q. & A. with Bryce

  • Why did you start breeding?

My journey into breeding began with a single, remarkable dog named Dan. Bringing him into my life completely transformed my understanding of what a canine companion could be. His incredible loyalty, intelligence, and unique personality inspired me to dive deep into the world of Irish Setters.
  • What makes your program special?

Our puppies are raised on an active farm, offering them an environment to grow and thrive. This setting provides endless space for daily exploration, natural socialization, and functional physical development.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are mahogany. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

“The price includes the first round of vaccinations, deworming, and puppy socialization. All of our puppies are the same price regardless of color or size. Includes limited registration and microchip.”

Breeder-Reported Testing

Good level

Sunset Acres Setters reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Irish Setters.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel, PRA, Irish Setter Type

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
