I'm Sydney B., the breeder behind Symar Borzoi located in Escondido, CA. We have been involved in the sport of purebred dogs for over 35 years. Over that time, we have crisscrossed the country and circled the globe competing in events with our dogs, enjoying new and wonderful experiences, and making lifelong friends along the way. We are honored to share our lives with these beautiful hounds as they continue to teach us new things every day. They never fail to make us smile.

Why did you start breeding?
I wanted to produce quality dogs from healthy breeding stock. Testing was a hit and miss in the 80's as we were all just learning about genetic issues and how to test for them. I decided that healthy parents meant a better chance for a healthy puppy, and a healthy puppy had a better chance for longer, healthier life.What makes your program special?
We research pedigrees to find ancestors that contributed to the breed. Once a stud is chosen, we health test parents before making the decision to breed. From time to time, we will reach back in history to use a dog no longer with us. The reason for this is to ensure genetic diversity and to prevent the loss of valuable borzoi pedigrees.Where do your breeding dogs live?

Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
