Meet the breeder

I'm Nicole and Andy W., the breeder behind Taika Kennel located in Galt, CA. We raise Finnish Lapphunds focused on producing well-adjusted, confident puppies suited for family life. Our dogs are selected for health, temperament, and sound structure. Puppies are raised in a farm environment and exposed to various experiences to help them develop into stable companions.

Q. & A. with Nicole and Andy

  • Why did you start breeding?

We’ve fallen in love with this remarkable breed and are dedicated to its preservation. The Finnish Lapphund’s friendly nature and adaptable, “go anywhere” personality make them an absolute joy to work with—and to live with. Cricket has been an incredible ambassador for the breed, and we’re passionate about continuing this journey.
  • What makes your program special?

We prioritize health, temperament, and soundness. Each dog is evaluated through temperament and conformation testing to ensure they meet breed standards in structure and character. Our puppies are raised on a hands-on farm and exposed to animals including rabbits, chickens, goats, and cats, helping them develop confidence and adaptability early.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black and wolf sable. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
