I'm Elizabeth B., the breeder behind United Broughton Kennel located in Sidney, NE. Owned and ran by two sisters. As the owners of United Broughton Kennel, we both specialize in knowledge in our breeds. Born into a heritage rich with breeding animals, we’ve continued the tradition. We breed for conformation, temperament, and drive.
Q. & A. with Elizabeth
Why did you start breeding?
I run UBK with my sister. We’ve been dog-obsessed since we were children. My grandfather used to create working mixes (Irish Wolfdog x grey hound) to hunt coyotes and bred Border Collies. Then my mother bred English Springers, and German Shorthair Pointers. I fell in love with German Shepherd Dogs when I was a child.
What makes your program special?
We’re breeding for temperament and health. In our Poodles we’re breeding for hunting purposes. They’re in French "Puddle dogs". They were bred to hunt, and no one uses them! Our female is our personal gun dog, she outworks GSP and labs! In GSD, we breed for more stable temperaments as well as not so steep toplines. I have both a working line female and a German import who’s a German show line.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Poodle puppies include miniature and standard sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our German Shepherd puppies include sable and black. Poodle puppies include apricot, black, blue, brown, cafe au lait, cream, silver, white, parti, and brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Good level
United Broughton Kennel reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
