I'm Melissa C., the breeder behind Unseelie Hounds located in Limestone, TN. My dogs are bred with a vision for both form and function. Health, temperament, and the drive to do what they are meant to do are my primary focuses. I believe your dog should be able to go from the ring to the field and show success, in addition to being a loving part of your home.

Why did you start breeding?
After having the honor of raising my amazing DC girl, Harley Quinn, and with the encouragement and support of my mentors the Komineks I decided to enter the breeding world. I've assisted them with two of their litters previously, including tube feeding and other care with the most recent. I believe Harley and I have a place in the continuation and preservation of this beautiful and talented breed.
What makes your program special?
My program focuses on the ideal that a dog should be able to show well (I said well, doesn't have to be Best in Show!) and also go into the field and perform the task they were originally created for. I believe that an Afghan should have both style and substance - they are meant to run and hunt, even if it's only plastic bunnies. I also know that temperament matters! These dogs are also family.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Harley Quinn
Harley is a wonderful ball of personality, who loves her people almost as much as she loves to run after “bunnies”. She finished her conformation championship in two weekends of shows, including an amazing premier with two back-to-back BoS wins clenching 5 point majors. These wins were in no small part thanks to her amazing movement and structure. While she loves to go into the ring, especially with first-dad Eddie, her favorite place on earth is the coursing field. With a career total of 14 Best of Breed wins, she has also placed top-three Afghan Hounds in coursing in 2023 (No. 2 Afghan), 2024 (No. 1 Afghan), and 2025 (No. 3 Afghan, No. 1 Bitch). When not coursing or doing LGRA, she’s often traveling with me to work as a breed ambassador at Renaissance Festivals as a member of the Hounds of East Fairhaven. She’s socialized with cats, horses, and large crowds of people, and enjoys being fawned over while napping in the sunshine with her fellow hounds. The H litter of the Komineks has multiple Dual Champions (including Harley), and her brother Jazz earned No. 1 Afghan Hound in AKC coursing for 2025. Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Vet Wellness Exam
