Meet the breeder

I'm Ashley G., the breeder behind Valiant Shepherds located in Humboldt, IA. We live on a 10 acre horse ranch that includes many different animals. We find that raising our dogs in a farm environment gives them good rounded temperaments. We consistently have company and the dogs get used to varied types of people including elderly and children.

Q. & A. with Ashley

  • Why did you start breeding?

It all started on the search for family pets and realized how hard it was to find health tested dogs and higher quality in our rural area. It made me realize the need for quality to be offered.
  • What makes your program special?

We focus on specifically breeding West German dogs known for their family-oriented disposition. Our dogs are raised in a farm environment and are used to having to follow the rules of the farm including not chasing our feathered friends (chickens etc.) and being raised around small children and their friends.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies include stock and long coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.
