I'm Maureen C., the breeder behind Vom Blauberge German Shepherds located in Blue Ridge, GA. We are a passionate and dedicated breeding program that produces dogs with great working drives, conformation, and temperaments. We decided to start a responsible, in-home breeding program in order to produce quality working dogs that also fit into a home setting. These dogs can do it all, and we make sure to foster that versatility in our puppies beginning from the moment they're born.
Q. & A. with Maureen
Why did you start breeding?
For the last 10 years, I have been involved in IGP, also known as "Schutzhund". My goal has been to train GSDs myself to pass a breed survey. If they are unable to meet this requirement - I will not use them in my program. It has been a lifelong goal to start my own high-quality breeding program. We only want to pass on the best genetics if we can help it.
What makes your program special?
All of our dogs must complete a breed survey through USCA or the SV prior to being bred. A breed survey has strict standards such as: passing hip and elbow testing, earning a working degree such as IGP1, completing a 12-mile endurance test, passing a BH, earn a show score of "G" (good) or better. We also do full embark panels.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies have stock coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include sable, black, bi-color, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Vom Blauberge German Shepherds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Spine (OFA, FCI), Temperament Test
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
