Q. & A. with Johan
Why did you start breeding?
My wife and I both grew up around puppies - me around shepherds and her around dachshunds. We have a family of six kids and wanted to get into breeding to teach our kids love and empathy for dogs and they are loving it. We especially love working with our shepherds and enjoy their intelligence, loyalty and amazing temperaments.
What makes your program special?
We collaborate with responsible, ethical breeders in Europe and import most of our dogs from the top lines in Europe. We will keep exceptional pups from our litters to keep bettering the breed with future breedings. We are the stewards and custodians of bettering the breed. We have a network of contacts in Germany and other European countries and have access to awesome champion kennels out there.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies have long coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and black and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Vom Cronje Haus German Shepherds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia (Preliminary), Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Brucellosis, Temperament Test
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
