I'm Josh E., the breeder behind Vom Eisenhunde located in Atlanta, GA. Our mission is simple: to produce dogs that embody the breed standard in mind, body and character.
Let’s redefine what it means to own a sound German Shepherd Dog.
Q. & A. with Josh
Why did you start breeding?
I have always had an interest in breeding dogs. After the last four years of training, showing, and titling at the local, regional and national level I have attained all of the necessary show ratings, working tittles, health testing and a breed survey under the German SV system. My vision and hard work has finally come to fruition!
What makes your program special?
All of the dogs used in our program have attained V or excellent Show ratings, have numerous IGP tittles, have Hips/elbows rated A1 normal by the SV in Germany, have SV breed surveys and are DM: n/n. We do not import "titled" dogs nor are we drawn to the "flavor" of the day dogs. Our breeding pairs based on personal goals while taking into account the critiques of multiple show and trial judges.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies include plush and stock coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and red and bi-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Vom Eisenhunde reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Dentition, Brucellosis, Temperament Test
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Repository, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
