Meet the breeder

I'm Mariya T., the breeder behind Vom Haus Elbrus Kennel located in Spokane, WA. I am committed to producing high-quality German Shepherd Dogs in full compliance with the standards of SV Germany. All breeding dogs are temperament evaluated, have received official show ratings, and hold recognized working titles.

Q. & A. with Mariya

  • Why did you start breeding?

I got into breeding as a natural extension of my work in IGP. After years of training and competing, I developed a clear understanding of what makes a truly capable working dog—both mentally and physically. Breeding allows me to preserve and develop those qualities, producing dogs that can succeed in sport while also being stable, reliable partners.
  • What makes your program special?

I am committed to producing high-quality German Shepherd Dogs in full compliance with the standards of SV Germany, the original governing body of the breed. All breeding dogs in my program are temperament evaluated and have received official show ratings. Each dog holds recognized working titles and has successfully completed the AD (Ausdauerprüfung) endurance test. All dogs are DNA registered with SV and have certified hip and elbow ratings (a-stamp), and spinal evaluation. In addition, all dogs are genetically tested and confirmed DM-clear (N/N).
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have stock coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include sable, bi-color, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Great level

Vom Haus Elbrus Kennel reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
