Meet the breeder

I'm Emily J., the breeder behind Vom Hausgladfel located in Nacogdoches, TX. Our Goal is to produce quality German shepherds as lifelong companions that are capable of being athletic, healthy, versitile, well tempered, and stunning. In order to acheive this goal, we work primarily with imported dogs out of West German Show Lines. All of our dogs have their hips and elbows done through SV with passing results, have passed their WB (temperment test), and are DM tested. We also work towards titling our breeding stock in both conformation and schutzhund (bite work). We will always prioritize quality and health over quantity! While our dogs are bred for show/sport, many of our puppies have also thrived as service dogs, personal protection dogs, and family companions!

Q. & A. with Emily

  • Why did you start breeding?

I fell in love with German Shepherds when I was very young. My uncles have always owned the breed. Each time I visited, I couldn't wait to see their dogs. I dreamed about one day having a kennel of my own in which I could make my own mark on the world of GSDs. However, my father never liked big dogs, so it wasn't until college that I was able to get one of my own. Evie was my first GSD, and I trained her as my personal service dog to help aid me with my various autoimmune dissorders. Through her, I realized the strength of my passion for the breed and decided to see what I could do with it. I continued to add to my pack, attempting to choose the best dogs I could. I am happy to say that I love each and every one of my dogs and adore working with them. I can't wait to see what they can accomplish.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Temperament Test

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Full Embark Panel, DNA Disease Panel, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

I've brought my Nero from Vom Hausgladfel and I couldn't be happier with the whole experience. Emily was very knowledgeable and caring, and it was clear that their puppies were well cared for. The process was smooth, and I felt like Emily really wanted to make sure the pups were going to good homes. I would definitely recommend this breeder to anyone looking for a new furry family member!

Emily (Vom Hausgladfel GSD) was amazing from the first time I reached out with interest in one of her dogs - through the process of delivering the puppy to my home - and well after. She is responsive, knowledgeable, detail-oriented, thoroughly answers any questions that arise, obviously cares a great deal about her puppies. I live in a different state - and Emily was very on top of safely delivering the puppy to me. She is a problem solver. She was very thorough with information on health, feeding, grooming, and training. I have no doubt she would attentively address any concerns or questions I have - at any time during the lifespan of the dog. My boy, Sabo, is stunning - and has the best disposition and has been very easy to train and acclimate to his new environment. Emily is definitely on top of her game - I highly recommend.
