Meet the breeder

I'm Emily J., the breeder behind Vom Hausgladfel located in Nacogdoches, TX. At Hausgladfel, we breed West German Show Line German Shepherds focused on health, temperament, and structure. Our dogs come from carefully selected European lines, are health tested, and titled in SV conformation and IGP. We raise versatile puppies suited for sport, work, and loving family homes.

Q. & A. with Emily

  • Why did you start breeding?

We are Emily and Matt Gladfelter, breeders behind Hausgladfel. Our passion for GSD’s comes from years of study and lifelong admiration for the breed. Emily’s first Shepherd became her service dog, which deepened her commitment to the breed and ethical breeding practices. That experience led us into conformation and sport, where we became dedicated to developing correct, stable, well bred GSDs.
  • What makes your program special?

We follow the SV (FCI) standard with West German Show Lines selected for balance, versatility, and temperament. Breeding dogs are chosen for structure, nerves, and quality. All dogs are health tested, with SV HD/ED and DM, and proven through titles in conformation and sport. We breed only when dogs meet our standards, prioritizing quality over quantity.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies include stock and long coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include sable, black, and black and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Emily

Emily has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Emily partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 6 weeks old.

“While we take gender and color preferences into consideration, our primary focus is matching each puppy to the home that best fits their temperament and personality. Because our puppies join a variety of family, sport, and working homes, it is important that each one is placed where they will thrive long-term. Around 6 weeks of age, we work closely with our trainer to evaluate each puppy and make thoughtful, individualized placements. If a specific color or gender is not available in your selected litter, your deposit may be transferred to a future litter that better matches your preferences. Final selections are typically made between 6–7 weeks of age, depending on the litter. Until selections are finalized, “reserved” puppies represent general deposit spots based on preference. For the most up-to-date availability or questions about upcoming litters, please contact us directly.”

Price

Puppy prices include a $1,000 non-refundable deposit and between $3,500 - $4,500 final payment, before taxes & fees.
Pay over time with Klarna.

“Puppies start at $4,500. Pricing does not vary by color or registration type. This deposit is NONREFUNDABLE, but can be transferred to another puppy within 2 litters. If no other puppy is chosen after 2 litters, the deposit becomes FORFEIT.”

Contract & health guarantee

Emily may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. If Emily offers a contract or guarantee, the details will be personalized by them. If you have any questions or want to know more, don't hesitate to reach out to Emily directly.

All contracts are handled securely through Good Dog.

Excellent level

Vom Hausgladfel reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Temperament Test

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Full Embark Panel, DNA Disease Panel, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)

Emily did a fantastic job communicating with me about the puppy prior to pick up and months afterwards. She gave me all the medical information I needed and made the process as easy as possible. Jenna (I call her Charlie) is a fantastically sweet pup who is incredibly affectionate with every person she meets while also being incredibly driven to do obedience and training. She is now 6 months old and is literally everything I could have ever hoped for in a pup - I highly recommend Emily to anyone who is looking for an ethical breeder who prioritizes the saftey and well-being of her pups and dogs

Working with Emily was pure joy! Not only was she extremely knowledgeable and caring, but my wife & I could tell that she loves the breed and her puppies show it. She was patient with my questions since it had been many years since owning a dog. Our soon to be 6 month old German Shepherd (Beka) has become a member of our family. She is maturing physically as well as emotionally. I highly recommend Emily (Vom Hausgladfel)!

Emily (Vom Hausgladfel GSD) was amazing from the first time I reached out with interest in one of her dogs - through the process of delivering the puppy to my home - and well after. She is responsive, knowledgeable, detail-oriented, thoroughly answers any questions that arise, obviously cares a great deal about her puppies. I live in a different state - and Emily was very on top of safely delivering the puppy to me. She is a problem solver. She was very thorough with information on health, feeding, grooming, and training. I have no doubt she would attentively address any concerns or questions I have - at any time during the lifespan of the dog. My boy, Sabo, is stunning - and has the best disposition and has been very easy to train and acclimate to his new environment. Emily is definitely on top of her game - I highly recommend.

Emily was so helpful in finding me the perfect pup! Not only was she informative and answered all of my questions before he came home, but she's also made sure to check in to see how we were all doing and be someone that I could reach out to if I ever had questions or needed anything. She's incredibly knowledgeable, and I can tell that she has a true, deep passion for what she does. Emily puts a lot work into the litters she produces, and I get constant compliments from strangers, veterinarians, and trainers we've worked with in my area. She's given me recommendations of reputable trainers that we may use in the future, and she absolutely knows her stuff. Not only is my pup adorable, but he has a fantastic temperament and drive, and I always hear that he's such a well-bred dog. She's truly given me my best friend; I'm grateful for the work that she put in to make him the healthiest and best GSD that I could ever have. She genuinely loves all of her dogs and their pups and breeds with purpose. Choosing Emily as our breeder was the smartest decision I could have made (for the support she offers, my sanity in having a good/smart pup, and for his future health!)

I've brought my Nero from Vom Hausgladfel and I couldn't be happier with the whole experience. Emily was very knowledgeable and caring, and it was clear that their puppies were well cared for. The process was smooth, and I felt like Emily really wanted to make sure the pups were going to good homes. I would definitely recommend this breeder to anyone looking for a new furry family member!
