I'm Christina C., the breeder behind Vom Kiefernhaus located in Franklin, VT. My goal is to produce German Shepherds that are healthy and have proven working ability with great temperaments. “The breeding of shepherd dogs is the breeding of working dogs, and this must always be the aim, or we shall cease to produce shepherd dogs. Utility is the true criterion of beauty - Max von Stephanitz.
Q. & A. with Christina
Why did you start breeding?
The fulfillment of seeing new puppies born, watching them grow, and helping shape them and train them in preparation for their new forever homes is the most rewarding experience ever! Germans Shepherds stole my heart, and I hope one of my loving puppies will do the same for you!
What makes your program special?
I focus on breeding dogs that have enough working drive to keep up with my lifestyle but also have amazing temperaments and can quickly adapt to a calm family setting. I also focus on the genetic health of each of my dogs. I look forward to connecting with you and your family and sending your home with the newest member of your family!
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Athena
Athena is a female German Shepherd over 11 years old. Carefully selected as a great representative of her breed, Christina decided to make her part of their program. Christina has passed Good Dog’s screening process, which involved a review of their breeding practices, environment, and the mental and physical health of their dogs.
Vom Kiefernhaus reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Temperament Test
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
