I'm Dawn W., the breeder behind Vom Wilke Kennels located in Sumner, IA. We breed high-quality pups from primarily West German Show Lines. We prioritize the health and temperament of our dogs and their pups, and we do all that we can to ensure our puppies get the best lives, including proper socialization and careful placement into responsible homes. We care deeply about this breed and are proud to be German Shepherd breeders.

“Once puppies are born we begin the process of accepting deposits/holding fee to reserve a puppy from the litter. Deposit is $500 and is non-refundable. However, if the litter does not a produce the right match for you than it can be transferred to a future litter. There is a contract we need to have signed prior to placing a deposit.”

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
