Meet the breeder

I'm Jennifer L., the breeder behind Von Bairdhaus located in Cedar Hill, TN. 34 yrs in GSDs (rescue, herding, Schutzhund). In 2020, joined pedigree expert Candace Baird. We breed healthy, versatile working lines with great nerves and a natural off-switch. Perfect for active family homes, protection, or sport. Raised indoors to be loved. No outdoor kennels. Active homes only.

Q. & A. with Jennifer

  • Why did you start breeding?

After years in breed rescue, I saw firsthand the devastating impact of poor genetic health and unstable temperaments. I transitioned into training and trialing in Schutzhund and herding, which inspired me to start breeding. My goal is to intentionally preserve the breed by producing healthy, long-lived German Shepherds with the rock-solid nerves and stable minds that families deserve.
  • What makes your program special?

What makes us unique? We don't just study pedigrees—we lived them. Over 34 years in GSDs (herding, AKC, Schutzhund), we have personally trained and titled multiple dogs across the first 5 generations of this puppy's lineage. Partnered with expert Candace Baird, we use this generational knowledge to breed for superb nerves and a calm indoor "off switch." Ideal for active, loving family homes.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have stock coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are sable. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Excellent level

Von Bairdhaus reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Temperament Test, Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
