I'm Linda P., the breeder behind Von Fahringer Shepherds located in Ballston Spa, NY. Mika is the granddaughter of Usher, a 2X World Sieger. Her Uncle Mio, is the current 2X World Sieger. We breed for health, temperament, intelligence and beauty. It is an honor to bring gorgeous, very special Shepherd pups into the world, to add love and joy to the families that choose them.
Q. & A. with Linda
Why did you start breeding?
My first two Shepherds were adult rescues, one had severe hip dysplasia, the other was an extreme fear biter. I bought my third, as a puppy from a backyard breeder. Two vets concurred that she was half Lab. After years of emotional hardship, I wanted to do better and breed quality shepherds with great health and solid temperaments. I researched, saved my money and bought a top VA1 granddaughter!
What makes your program special?
I take great care in my every step and decision, to do the best that I can for my dogs, puppies and buyers. From obtaining the best female and stud, to a lifetime of nutritious food/supplements, to planning stimulating learning activities for the pups, teaching basic manners, housebreaking and crate training, I love it all. When families need help, I'm always just a text or a phone call away!
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies include stock, plush, and long coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include sable and black and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Litter update on 09 Nov. •
There has been a turn of events. My gorgeous, well behaved pick of the litter, Jovian, is now available again. My daughter is expecting and has so much on her plate having just purchased a new home/farm. She hasn’t been feeling well and is afraid that with so many animals and soon her first child, that she won’t have the necessary time to train Jovi to be the best that he can be. Her three small toy dogs are also afraid of large dogs, so that was a worry for her. I am glad that she realized this before taking Jovi to SC. It will be easy to find a great home for him because he is literally the perfect German Shepherd puppy. Between his great temperament and his extreme good looks … he’s got it all going on!

Litter update on 09 Nov. •
My daughter, Laura, flew in Saturday from SC for her Baby Shower and to pick up her new puppy, Jovian! He will be going home to a small farm with lots of goats, sheep and chickens, plus three small dogs.
I have been enjoying all the updated photos and videos from the new puppy families! To see my pups so happy, loved and fitting in to their new homes so well, really brightens my day!
Tonight we will be puppy-less. It will start a new chapter of giving back to Mika, Teak and Reno who sacrificed quite a bit, so that Mika and I could give our all to the young puppies who needed us most! ♥️
After talking with Mika’s reproductive vet, we expect our next litter to be born next Spring and be ready for new home in the summer of ‘26. (Her vet recommends having litters for two heat cycles in a row and then skipping a cycle.)

Jovian hanging out w the big “boys” this morning. He’s waiting for his mom to fly in from SC this weekend.
Kingsley did so good flying to Florida yesterday. The flight attendants fell in love with him and let his Mom keep the top flap open, so he could get more air and see his Mom. We got him nice and tired before he left and then he slept the whole flight. I’m hoping things go just as well for Jovi.

It’s been wonderful getting to know Kingsley’s Mom after picking her up at the airport today. We introduced both Kingsley and Jovian to airport approved carriers, as both will be flying to their new homes. We also played a scent discrimination game which they both enjoyed and took very seriously!

When I looked out at the landing I use to see nine back to back puppies. Sunday there were only three and today only two! I brought Sky to a half way meeting point on Sunday. I know she will bring her new family so much love and happiness! So many of my dogs are filling a great void after a huge loss and that makes me very happy and proud that they have the right calm and loving temperament to do just that!
So with just two pups left they have a lot more freedom and are enjoying daily walks around the house. A favorite is checking out my “Juvie’s”, Teak and Reno.
Tomorrow Kingston’s Mom is flying in from Fla and I’ll give her a ride to the airport the next AM. She’ll have time to bond with her new baby before getting on the plane .
I have been taking photos of each new parent or family w their new pup and then asking them to take my photo w/the pup. When the dust settles I want to make a nice reel w those special photos!
We had a Mom tell her kids they were coming to my studio for photos. We took a bunch of photos in the studio, then I asked if they could hold one of my puppies for a photo I could use on my website. She said yes and the kids loved holding the puppy. Their Shepherd had recently passed. Then as I snapped away and had a video recordeung the Mom told the girls that this was THEIR puppy and they were taking it home that day! It was amazing! I don’t know how she kept it a secret!!

Despite the hazardous weather (wind brought a plane down near our house, a huge tree limb crushed our pool fence, metal fascia boards flew of our house)…we managed to have some real quality supervised play today. And more indoor play than the pups wanted most likely! It was nice to see Mika teach the pups the follow me game where she picks up the big stick and has the pups follow after her. She used to always play that w Teak and Reno.

Crazy high winds took a plane down near my house, a huge part of a 200 year old tree fell right next to my studio, as we were taking photos of a family about to leave with their puppy, 2 metal fascia boards flew off the house in the puppies’ area…SOOO it was a good day to be inside or supervise them closely outside. I had to run for my camera bc they started doing something REALLY amazing! Will share that soon, have to download photos.

About Mika
Mika has an amazing temperament. She loves people and is good with other dogs. She has a medium drive and a great on/off switch (ie: when playing with other dogs indoors, I give the command "Enough!" and she will stop and go lie down). She is a strong, red and black beauty with an impressive head. Her health is excellent, her hips and elbows are good and she is clear from carrying the DM (Degenerative Myelopathy) gene.
Von Fahringer Shepherds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Brucellosis
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
von Willebrand Disease I (vWD I), Hyperuricosuria (HUU), Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
