Von Kühnheit German Shepherd Kennels

Katelyn M.

Breeder of German Shepherds

Meet the breeder

I'm Katelyn M., the breeder behind Von Kühnheit German Shepherd Kennels located in Owensboro, KY. My husband, Jos`e, and I are the human faces of Von Kühnheit Kennels. We wanted to formerly introduce ourselves on this page because we know that not only do people look to buy puppies from great breedings but they also look for that personal connection with the people putting their heart into the breedings! When you buy from a dog breeder, you should feel that they are trustworthy, honest and really care for each and every dog or puppy in their kennels. We at Von Kühnheit keep our dogs in our home like family and we are continuing to stay small enough to do so. We do genetic health tests and have orthopedics done BEFORE any breedings. And also will be temperament testing each puppy, require puppy applications AND a very thorough, signed contract with 2 witnesses from potential puppy owners to ensure our pups go to the right homes. We are breeding to outside world class health tested and show/working titled studs for the next several years for the best possible breedings for temperament, workability and soundness. We are striving for all of that and versatility in the West German Show Line Shepherd!

Q. & A. with Katelyn

  • Why did you start breeding?

A consistent love for the West German Show Line Shepherd encouraged the beginning of Von Kühnheit. I fell in love with this working breed as a child so when I became an adult and able to support myself, I bought my first shepherd in 2016. We wanted to give back to the breed by breeding healthy pups and placing them into loving homes. We strive to not only produce beautiful puppies, but to help promote responsible breeding in order to ensure that the German Shepherd will continue to thrive for generations to come.
  • What makes your program special?

We are breeding to outside, world-class, health tested and show/working titled studs for the next several years in order to produce the best possible temperament, workability, and soundness in our puppies! We do everything we can to ensure our puppies have everything they need to develop into healthy and happy dogs. In our program, good health and temperament are essential, cuteness is guaranteed, and lots of love is always included. Puppies are also temperament tested and we use the puppy culture program to ensure our puppies grow in the best way possible! We also only give out Limited AKC registration until the dog is at least 2 years old AND has passing Hip and Elbow scores from a orthopedic recognized organization (OFA/PennHip/SV) and a clear DM test. Once owners give proof of that with certifications, we release Full Registration with breeding rights immediately. This not only protects the dog itself but also this breed's health as a whole.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
