Freddy D.

Breeder of German Shepherds

Meet the breeder

I'm Freddy D., the breeder behind Von Legends Burg located in Canyon Country, CA.

Q. & A. with Freddy

  • Why did you start breeding?

I’ve been passionate about German Shepherds since childhood, first getting involved at just 10 years old. I had a German breeder who became my mentor and guided me into the world of showing and handling dogs. My dedication has only grown—I now travel to Germany at least twice a year to attend shows, continue my education, and deepen my involvement in the global German Shepherd community.
  • What makes your program special?

We operate more as a dedicated hobby kennel rather than a large-scale operation. Our focus is always on quality over quantity. Most of iour puppies are reserved in advance because of the attention, and reputation behind our program. We raise our puppies in an environment with plenty of space to explore, play, and develop—helping them grow into confident, German Shepherds from the very start.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies include long and stock coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are black and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

  • Hip Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered), Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered), Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Temperament Test, Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
