Meet the breeder

I'm Alisha P., the breeder behind Von Thomson Haus located in Motley, MN. We offer quality puppies out of proven working lines to active families and as AKC sport dogs. We do our best to breed with total care by primarily focusing on raising healthy, affectionate, and loyal companions. From birth, our puppies are raised using ENS & Puppy Culture to help shape the best puppy possible. My life schedule allows me to spend maximum amount of time and working with the puppies during the entire time they are with me, resulting in highly social and advanced puppies. As a result of our efforts, we’re positive our puppies will become perfect family members and add just as much joy to your life as they have ours! In addition to this- when you select a Von Thomson Haus puppy- you can rest assured that both parents will have had OFA Hip & Elbow Clearances as well as known DM statuses on both parents. Our puppies always come with prepaid (limited) AKC Registration that gets completed at time of pickup. We place all puppies with limited registration until official OFA, Pennhip or SV reports are completed.

Q. & A. with Alisha

  • Why did you start breeding?

My first German Shepherd was a gorgeous bicolor. She was unregistered- but no doubt she was purebred. I lost her to DM- and at that time had never heard of the condition. It wasn't until a couple years after loosing her that I learned DM was a preventable condition. That's when I began really looking into the advantages of health testing- and the importance of buying a next lifelong companion from health tested parents. Ultimately, I found it difficult to find great working lines out of health tested parents that were affordable. We purposefully maintain lower rehoming fees so family homes that want a healthy, well raised puppy out of health tested parents and well bred do not have to feel like they have to sacrifice quality of their next best friend because of finances.
  • What makes your program special?

Our litters are planned purposefully and I oversee every aspect of our program- from start to finish. Our puppies are raised using Puppy Culture and various other ENS techniques We hold ourselves accountable as far as ensuring parent dogs are living in an environment where they can thrive and do not keep a kennel environment (this being said- we do utilize LARGE chain link runs at appropriate times). Our litters are absolutely always out of OFA health tested parents- in addition to this we will always maintain our parent dogs profile in a way you can access those health ratings before even reaching out to us. We ensure our dogs are excellent advocates for the breed and our dogs are always fed a healthy diet, receive appropriate vet care and are continually socialized with the outside world. Additionally, my rehoming process is centered around knowing our puppy families are prepared for life with a German Shepherd. We do not approve every application for our puppies- largely because we understand that German Shepherds are not for everyone, even though families may have the best intent at heart. Though there's always an "open door" option for the pups to come back at any age- we strive to ensure our puppy families understand and are willing to commit to the high demands a German Shepherd Puppy has.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have stock coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include sable, black, and bi-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Pay over time with Klarna.

“Pre-paid AKC Registration (limited AKC Registration), vet exams, age appropriate vaccinations ( Initial checkup at 6 weeks along with 1st set vaccinations, 2nd check at 8 weeks- receive booster vaccinationat this time), microchipped, and to-go bags. Older puppies prices may be adjusted to accommodate for additional vaccinations & vet exam as well as feed/age appropriate chews/training. We offer payment options through Klarna on final puppy payments (this does not include deposits). **We try to take into consideration color preferences- however we always consider temperament first. If we do not feel comfortable with the puppy/family based off of preferred color or litter, we will be honest with the family and suggest a better pup for them- this could mean moving onto the next litter depending on what puppies are currently available. . Deposits are non-refundable however can be transferred to a future litter if we are notified a minimum of 48hrs prior to scheduled 8 week vet appointment (Puppies must be paid in full by the time they are 9wks old EVEN if they are still here). Deposits on our last litter of the season are NOT transferable unless the litter did not produce enough puppies of preferred genders. If 8+ week old pups are needing to be held longer than a week, we ask they are paid in full instead of deposit being placed (however we will not hold a puppy without deposit placed). We try to take into consideration color preferences- however we always consider temperament first and feel that puppy families should considerpersonality over color as well, if there are significant differences in personality and drives. If we do not feel comfortable with the puppy/family based off of preferred color, we will be honest with the family and suggest a better pup for them.”

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Temperament Test

Alisha was amazing to work with! She was quick to respond, answered all the questions I had about Elle, worked with me on getting her ready to come to me, and helped with getting Elle transported. Elle is more than I could have asked for. She is a beautiful, well behaved, and an intelligent puppy. She gets along great with both my 8 year old daughter and my 9 month old pit-bull mix puppy. Elle was the missing piece in our family! Alisha sent me links for things she had used with Elle so I could make her comfortable when she got to me and even sent two bags of stuff for her when she came. She continued to check in once Elle came home to make sure she was settling in. Alisha was also amazing when Elle had a small health issue. I called Alisha for some suggestions and she was able to give me some great advice and I got Elle back mended. It is so obvious how much love and time she puts into her puppies and it shows. Elle is really such a good girl. I really couldn’t have asked for a better breeder to work with and I am very thankful I found her!

Alisha was exactly the breeder I was looking for, and I’m so glad I trusted her with helping me find my next best friend. I honestly can’t give her enough praise. She has always been just a text away whenever I’ve had a question, and she continues to check in on us. She’s given me so many helpful suggestions and support whenever I’ve needed it. She’s truly been an invaluable resource and made this whole process seamless. The puppy I got from her is everything I hoped for. He is eager to please, fearless, and incredibly smart. We’re currently in a cooperative care class, and both my trainer and vet were impressed with how confidently he handled being touched by strangers. He’s already picking up so many tricks, and everywhere we go people tell me he’s the perfect puppy. Finding a good German Shepherd breeder can be difficult, since aggression is unfortunately common in the breed, but this little guy is the friendliest dog on the planet. It’s so clear how much Alisha loves and cares for her dogs and how much thought she puts into her breeding program. She really just cares so much. I couldn’t be happier. Thank you, Alisha!

Alisha has been absolutely phenomenal with helping me getting my new German Shepherd puppy! We had a really nice phone interview and she answered a lot of my questions that I had, and even gave me updates on the pups in terms of helping me find the right personality that would fit my small family, giving me advice on care instructions, and even transferring ownership, including my puppy's microchip! If I ever decide to get another Shepherd in the future and Alisha is still here, I will be 100% coming back to her because she takes such amazing care for her Shepherds!

Alisha was quick to communicate, immediately sharing her puppies and information on first reach out, as well as quick to set up a first meet! I couldn't have asked for a better experience with ease of transition, a truly friendly environment, and the utmost care. My little guy is already leaps and bounds ahead thanks to Alisha! The love is limitless here!
