I'm Patrona D., the breeder behind Welcome Home Bassets located in Idaho. Basset puppies tend to be pretty low key, compared to other dog breeds. They are a daily day brightener and bring a smile to the face of everyone they meet! We live on 10 acres of land, and love having the wide open spaces to breath and live and roam, and raise Bassets, alongside our children.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    Ever Since we got married in 2010, we have been talking about a dream to raise Basset puppies, and provide high quality, while yet, affordable companions to other families. In the mean time friends got into providing that service to our area, so we held off on that to allow them that space without our interfering in their market. Recently they chose to retire, and we and have been thankful for their help, and mentoring, and we are SO enjoying this process, and Love our Dogs!

  • What makes your program special?

    Everyone needs to find a breeder and program they are comfortable with. That may be someone else, or it may be us. We wish to provide a place that you can trust, and know we care about the details and providing you a good experience as well as a companion for life!

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include tan and white, black and white, and black white and brown. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Getting a puppy from Patrona

Patrona has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Together, you’ll choose the puppy that’s right for you, stay in touch with regular updates, and plan how to bring your new puppy home.

Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit and between $1,200 - $1,500 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“Cost includes up to date on worming, Vaccinations, Vet check, socialization, delivery within 30miles, puppy comfort package. At times there may be interest in a pup by multiple people, please Note: We cannot hold a puppy for you unless there is a down payment. We have tried to come up with a solution, and at this time our policy will need to be that the 1st person who makes a down payment is the one the puppy is matched with. I am sorry for the inconvenience, and we will continue to reevaluate how to best serve everyone.”

Patrona may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.     Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

    Patrona was so great to work with! We got our puppy Hank from her, and he is such a great dog. He does so well with our kids and has been doing very well with potty training. He is our first basset hound, but I would definitely reach out to Patrona if we ever decided to get another. We chose him when he was so young, and the communication from Patrona was amazing.     Patrona is an excellent breeder and I highly recommend her. She was very good about giving updates and answering questions. She made the transition process super easy. I chose to drive down and pick up the puppy but she also had alternative options in the trade off. I enjoyed her flexibility. She also takes great care of the puppies by getting them to the vet before the trade off. As for my lovely newest addition I don't know where to start. Patrona did a great job at raising the dogs. He came somewhat potty trained and crate trained. He has a very calm demeanor and is rarely difficult. He loves people and people love him. He's a very healthy dog, however he would much prefer a nap over a walk. If your looking for a dog that loves to cuddle and is low maintenance I would definitely get a basset hound from Patrona.

    Patrona was very responsive, knowledgeable, and kind. She met us at the Spokane Airport and had everything ready for us when we arrived. She asked us what we would be naming our pup and we let her know that we landed on the name Eeyore (childhood favorite movie and... The ears... I mean come on!). The little puppy bag that she gives with the blanket that had the scent of his siblings and mom really helped him the first few days with sleepy time at night. We would definitely get another puppy through Welcome Home Bassets.
