I'm Garoleen W., the breeder behind Wilsong Kennel located in Smith Center, KS. We health test beyond breed club recommendations, results are publicly available on OFA.org.
Our dogs are our pets first, then show dogs, then breeding. We take pride in preparing these puppies to make a smooth transition to their new home. I post frequent photos and videos as the litter grows.
Q. & A. with Garoleen
Why did you start breeding?
We adopted a retired Champion (coated) AHT from a local breeder as a pet for my husband. We fell in love with the breed. 7 years later I got a hairless AHT and enjoy competing in shows and dog sports. Breeding an occasional litter lets me bring joy to other people with these wonderful dogs.
I'm very proud that my breeding program is designated as an AKC BREEDER OF MERIT.
What makes your program special?
Our puppies are raised with an enrichment program to help them develop into all they can be and prepare them to transition to their new homes quickly.
We temperament test puppies to match each to homes waiting. Individual puppies may be more suited to particular home. We look at energy level, response to stimuli, independence & connectivity to people when making a match.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our American Hairless Terrier puppies include coated and hairless coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Part of my job as s breeder is to prepare these puppies to easily adjust to their new homes. They are exposed to common household noises like the vacuum cleaner, a noisy blender, tv sounds. I play a fireworks soundtrack to desensitize them to help avoid fear reactions later in life.

About BECKS
Becks is a sweet, happy dog that loves people. He is very easy to live with and loves being the center of attention. In fact he is a bit demanding for attention at home and in the show ring.

Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Serum Bile Acid Test, Dentition, Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

I had a very smooth and stress-free experience with Wilsong and Garoleen! She kept me in the loop with updates and photos the whole way and was flexible with pickup arrangements given the long distance between our locations. I couldn't be happier with my little hairless boy!
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
