I'm Donna R., the breeder behind Winds of Freedom Farm located in Lebanon, OR. My husband Gregg has always loved Rottweilers, I always had a passion for German Shepherds and our daughter Randee fell in love with the Whippet breed. Together we all manage to make the crazy work. We strive first and foremost for our dogs to be healthy of mind and body, then we work to achieve the correct animal based on breed standards and performance goals. We want to make sure that you have a 4- legged partner that can be there for all your adventures for years to come.
Q. & A. with Donna
Why did you start breeding?
Through the support and encouragement of two experienced breeders, we learned how to determine quality bred animals and how to partner it with the correct mate to improve the breed and our bloodlines. They also taught us the value of taking the time to utilize Puppy Culture with each puppy from birth until they leave for their forever home.
What makes your program special?
We feel that Puppy Culture and the tools we have learned through the many years of raising and training dogs enable us to produce a truly amazing start for these valuable young pups. Living on a farm and having unique exposures for each pup also adds another valuable layer to the puppies' formative days. Season that with love and you get a wonderful outcome.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Winds of Freedom Farm reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Dentition, Temperament Test
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
