Meet the breeder

I'm Kimberly K., the breeder behind Winterberry Afghan Hounds located in Carlisle, PA. We love this breed and do everything we can to help it thrive. We give each of our dogs and puppies the best care that we can. It is such an honor to preserve the line of these incredible dogs all the while creating companionship for others. This is where amazing temperament, intelligence, and beauty meet!

Q. & A. with Kimberly

  • Why did you start breeding?

I was showing one of my females in Germany and was approached about breeding. I bred one of my females with a German Champion Afghan and that litter produced many Grand Champions. That litter was the start to my breeding and showing career I enjoy showing and producing quality puppies. I also enjoy being a mentor to prospective new show enthusiasts.
  • What makes your program special?

Many of my dog have hip, eyes, DNA and thyroid testing. I make sure each breeding will produce the best quality puppies by studying the pedigrees and temperaments of the parents. Each breeding will have a Champion or Grand champion as one of the parents. All my puppies are raised in my house with children and other pets making the puppies very well socialized. All my puppies are veterinarian checked and receive their first vaccinations before leaving. All puppies come with AKC registration (limited unless sold as a show puppy), pedigree, wormed and health certificate from my veterinarian. All puppies go out on a contract protecting the puppy from ending up in the wrong home. All puppies are always welcomed back to Winterberry if the puppy/dog can no longer be kept.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Winterberry is awesome, I received pictures of my puppy at weekly intervals, had my email inquiries answered, and when we went to pick up our boy we were graciously met by family. Kim is amazing and her pups are so excellent, healthy and gorgeous.
