Wonderland Kennel

John C.

Certified Breeder of German Shepherds

Meet the breeder

I'm the breeder behind Wonderland Kennel located in Chickamauga, GA. I strive to raise sound show dogs that make wonderful family pets and working dogs. As a breeder, I feel a sense of responsibility to prioritize the overall health and temperament of each of my puppies and to ensure that they are loved and well cared for prior to joining their forever homes.

Q. & A. with John

  • Why did you start breeding?

I always thought of myself as a breeder. I was involved in the dog world from a very early age. I truly love the German Shepherd breed and am dedicated to looking out for the breed as a whole. I always strive to breed and train a better dog.
  • What makes your program special?

I do not breed my dogs unless they are fully healthy and genetically tested. I am dedicated to always having responsible policies when it comes to breeding, socializing, and training my pups. I love what I do and truly want the very best for my puppies and their forever families.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Excellent level

Wonderland Kennel reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Temperament Test

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
