Meet the breeder

I'm Debra M., the breeder behind Wyndswept English Setters located in Priest River, ID. I am a semi-retired small animal veterinarian. At 6 years of age, my family got their first English Setter and I have never known a time without one in my life. I have been involved in breeding and showing English Setters since I established the Wyndswept kennel in 1987.

Q. & A. with Debra

  • Why did you start breeding?

My exposure to the English setter as a child developed my love for the breed. The English setter is the epitome of the family dog. My desire is to breed for the preservation and betterment of this wonderful breed and to share it with others. After finishing medical school and settling in Boise, I started searching for a female to begin my breeding program with.
  • What makes your program special?

We endeavor to breed to "preserve" (and in some cases recover) the original foundational traits of the English setter breed. We strive to breed for the traits that the breed possesses because of their importance to the function of the breed as a walking gun dog. We breed every litter to be family pets first as not all puppies will be show dogs, but all will be pets.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
