I'm Kathi G., the breeder behind z Hodinek located in Pleasant Grove, CA. I strive to produce dogs with good health, temperament, and working ability. The sire and dam of each litter will have clear hip and elbow ratings, DM test, and working titles (like Schutzhund/IPO/IGP) or certifications (like search and rescue).
Q. & A. with Kathi
Why did you start breeding?
I first got involved with the breed through training and competing in Schutzhund/IPO/IGP, AKC obedience and rally, WDA(formerly SDA), and becoming certified in search and rescue, wilderness air scenting, and human remains detection.
What makes your program special?
I work hard to produce dogs with good health, temperament, and working ability, and I back my pups with both a health and temperament guarantee. I hold myself to the highest standard when it comes to my dogs and my policies.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include sable and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
z Hodinek reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Temperament Test
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Wisdom Panel, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
