Good Dog Communication Policy

Everything you need to know about Good Dog's Communication Policy.

Why This Policy Exists

Good Dog was created to bring trust and safety to the process of placing and getting a dog. Safety is our first priority.

Scams and fraud targeting dog breeders and puppy buyers are an ongoing reality. From phishing attempts to payment fraud, bad actors look for opportunities to exploit trust. We’ve consistently seen that nearly all fraudulent activity begins after communication moves off Good Dog, where our built-in safeguards no longer apply.

Keeping communication on Good Dog is one of the most effective ways we protect breeders, buyers, and trust across our community.

The Policy

All communication between Good Dog breeders and Good Dog buyers must stay on Good Dog until the puppy goes home.

Good Dog buyers are individuals who first connect with you through Good Dog, for example by applying to your program or sending a message on the platform.

Once the puppy goes home, you’re welcome to continue the relationship in whatever way works best for you. For matters related to your contract with a buyer or early transition home, we strongly recommend keeping those conversations on Good Dog so there is a shared record of communication if questions arise later.

How to Communicate on Good Dog

Use Good Dog messaging for all communication with Good Dog buyers before go-home day. This includes sharing updates, answering questions, coordinating next steps, and discussing placement details.

You can use Good Dog’s phone and video calls without sharing your personal contact information, so your information stays safe and private. When communication stays on Good Dog, everything stays in one place, with protections built in.

Why This Matters

Protection from scams and fraud.
Our systems monitor for suspicious behavior and block bad actors before issues escalate.

Control over personal information.
Built-in tools allow you to communicate without sharing private contact details.

Support if something goes wrong.
A verified record gives our team trusted, unaltered information to review situations fairly and step in when needed.

Trust across the Good Dog community.
When everyone communicates consistently on Good Dog, breeders and buyers always know where to find each other and what to expect.

Good Dog uses automated systems to monitor for fraud, scams, and phishing attempts. Nearly all bad actors attempt to move conversations off-platform to avoid these safeguards. When communication happens outside of Good Dog, even unintentionally, it limits our ability to protect both you and the buyer.

What to Watch For

If someone asks to move communication off Good Dog before the puppy goes home, please contact help@gooddog.com so we can help.

Other signs that may warrant extra caution include:

  • Pressure to act urgently or skip normal steps
  • Requests for unusual or unsecured payment methods
  • Attempts to change or delay agreed-upon payment terms (for example, paying after the puppy goes home)
  • Stories or details that don’t add up

The sooner we’re aware of a concern, the sooner we can help protect you and the broader community.
