Introduction to Matching Puppies to Homes

In this module, we’re going to outline how to think about matching pups and homes so that your dogs and their owners will thrive for a lifetime together. This matching process is one of the most important roles that you will have as a breeder and one that will make or break both your success in and your enjoyment of breeding. Even if you breed the finest dogs possible, if you don’t put them in the right homes much of your efforts will be wasted.

Matching is a puzzle. We would love this puzzle to always fit together beautifully. However, in reality there are no perfect matches, just like there are no perfect puppies and no perfect owners. Thus, you must prioritize the characteristics that are most important to you, your owners, and your pups is essential. Then you can provide guidance to owners to make their match even better, especially during their pup’s early months.
