Electronic Contracts on Good Dog

Electronic contracts on Good Dog are a simpler way to send, sign, and store contracts with your buyers. Send contracts that appear in your buyer's to-do list, collect legally binding signatures, and keep all signed contracts securely in your dashboard.

An overview of contracts on Good Dog
  • Part of the buyer's to-do list: When you send a contract, it appears in your buyer's to-do list with a notification to review and sign – so they see it as a step to complete to bring their pup home.
  • Send and sign contracts from any device: Upload your contract template, then send it whenever works best for you. You and your buyers can review and sign from your phone or desktop.
  • Manage your contracts in one secure place: Track any contract's status (sent, signed, pending) and access all signed contracts in your Good Dog dashboard for your record-keeping.
  • Collect legally binding electronic signatures from buyers: Electronic signatures are just as legally binding as paper contracts with pen-and-ink signatures.

How contracts on Good Dog work
  1. Upload your contract template: Go to the Contracts section of your Settings and select "Create template." You only need to do this once – after that, your template will be saved and ready to use whenever you need it.
  2. Send it to your buyer: Include it with a payment request or send it anytime that works for your program. Buyers will receive an email alert and a notification in their Good Dog messenger.
  3. You and your buyer sign: The contract appears in both of your to-do lists. Both of you can review and sign from your phone or desktop.
  4. Get notified when it's signed: You'll receive confirmation once your buyer signs, and you can access the signed contract anytime in your dashboard.

Getting started
The first time you use electronic signatures on Good Dog, you'll be prompted to sign a signature consent form. After that, you're all set! We support most common file types, including .doc, .docx, .pdf, .jpeg, .png, and .txt.

If your program doesn't use contracts at all, you can turn off the contract step in your to-do list by going to the Contracts section of your Settings and switching the toggle to "No."

Need help creating a contract? Check out Good Dog's sample contract templates in our Legal Resource Center. These templates include non-refundable puppy deposit agreements, limited registration puppy sale contracts, and more – all designed to be a jumping-off point that you can customize to fit your program's specific needs.

Creating and customizing contracts
You'll need to upload a contract template to use contracts on Good Dog. If you want to build a contract from scratch, you can create it in Word, Google Docs, or any other program, and then upload the final template to Good Dog.

You'll set up your contract template before uploading it by adding custom fields (like sire/dam name, puppy name, etc.) and signature fields. Then, each time you send a contract to a buyer, you can fill in those custom fields with the specific details for that placement.

If you need to make changes to a contract template:
  • Before the buyer signs: Cancel the existing contract in the message thread, edit it in Word, Google Docs, or another program, and then resend the updated version
  • After both parties have signed: Create and send a new contract directly through your Good Dog messenger

Managing your contracts
You can track all of your contracts by going to the Contracts section of your Settings, where you'll see which contracts have been sent, are pending signature, or have been signed. Your signed contracts are stored permanently on Good Dog, and buyers can always access their signed contracts through their to-do list.

Once a contract is fully signed, Good Dog automatically attaches a certificate page to the end of the document with details like the date and who signed it – serving as an official record of the signature process.
