What to ask your breeder
Here are a few questions you may want to ask your breeder about their breeding program:
Health testing
- What health tests do you perform on your breeding dogs?
Breeding dog health
- How often do your breeding dogs visit the vet? Breeding dogs should see a vet annually for a health check and any necessary vaccinations.
Socialization
- How do you socialize your dogs and get them ready for their new homes?
Socialization ensures puppies are well-adjusted and comfortable. Make sure your breeder prioritizes it.
Environment
- Where do your breeding dogs live?
- How do their pups typically spend their days?
- Do they have indoor/outdoor access? Are visitors allowed?
Health guarantees and puppy policies
- Do you offer a health guarantee? If so, what does your health guarantee include?
- Will you take a dog back for any reason?
Make sure your breeder is confident they’re raising healthy puppies and that they stand behind their dogs for life.
Payment
- Do you require a deposit? Is it non-refundable?
- What are your payment policies?
Many breeders require a deposit in order for you to reserve a spot in their litter.
