Meet the breeder

I'm Donna M., the breeder behind AKC Nordwest Schnauzers located in Tacoma, WA. Our puppies are lovingly raised to ensure a smooth transition into your home. We welcome FaceTime, Zoom as well as sending additional videos and photos to give you peace of mind—transparency, trust, and care are the foundation of our program.

Q. & A. with Donna

  • Why did you start breeding?

After bringing home a pup anxious about baths, grooming, and nail trims, I became passionate about raising confident puppies. I emphasize early exposure to sights, sounds, people, children, crate training, potty training, and basic manners. I monitor each puppy’s progress and tailor care to their needs, nurturing well‑adjusted pups eager to thrive in loving homes.
  • What makes your program special?

We breed happy, confident puppies using Puppy Culture protocols. For 12 weeks in our nurturing home, each pup receives gentle handling and early exposure to sights, sounds, people, and children, along with grooming familiarization, potty and crate training, and basic manners. We monitor progress and tailor care to produce outgoing, ready‑to‑thrive companions, with personalized care.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Donna

Donna has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Donna partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“Miniature Schnauzers are highly adaptable dogs and generally integrate well into a wide variety of households and lifestyles. While prospective owners are typically able to select their puppy in the order deposits are received, the Breeder reserves the right to make final placement decisions when necessary to ensure the best long-term match between a puppy and its future home. On rare occasions, an individual puppy may display temperament traits that make a particular placement less suitable. For example, an exceptionally active puppy may be better suited to a home with a more active lifestyle, while a more reserved puppy may thrive in a quieter environment. In such cases, the Breeder may recommend or require an alternative placement that is believed to be in the best interests of both the puppy and the family. The goal of this policy is to help ensure that each puppy is placed in a home where it can be successful and well-matched for life. While the Breeder has not previously found it necessary to override a family's puppy selection, the right to do so is reserved when circumstances warrant.”

I’m touching in on here with my story a bit late, but we have had our sweet boy, Tito, for about a year now, and we love him so much. Donna bred him very well, and he has been healthy and loving each day.

Working with Donna at AKC Northwest was fantastic—communication was excellent, and she was always available for questions. She gave us super helpful info to get started with our new puppy, Oreo, and even sent us home with a thoughtful care package (food, toys, treats, and yes—a toothbrush!). Oreo settled in right away and came crate- and potty-trained. He’s been a joy—playful in the backyard and a total cuddle bug inside. We’re so grateful and wholeheartedly recommend Donna!

I had the most wonderful experience working with Donna when getting our Miniature Schnauzer, Poet. From the very beginning, she was incredibly communicative and responsive. Whenever I was excited and wanted to share pictures with my daughters, she always sent them right away. She even started calling him by his name before he officially came home with us, which made the whole process so personal and special. Donna shared videos of Poet as he began potty training and interacting with both his littermates and with her, so by the time he joined our family I already had a sense of his personality and behavior. That made the transition seamless. Poet now comes with me every day to work, where I manage a memory care community, and I am constantly complimented not only on how beautiful he is (people often say he doesn’t even look real!) but also on how incredibly well-behaved he is. That is such a testament to the loving care and thoughtful breeding he received before coming to us. Pickup was easy, informative, and reassuring. I would absolutely recommend Donna and her wonderfully bred and cared-for Miniature Schnauzers to anyone looking for a healthy, happy, and exceptionally well-raised puppy. She truly goes above and beyond.

I couldn’t be happier with my experience purchasing my Miniature Schnauzer from Donna. From start to finish, it was clear how much care, intention, and heart she puts into her breeding program. Donna truly cares about what she brings into the world. Her puppies receive exceptional early socialization. She goes above and beyond to ensure they have extended litter time, exposure to new toys and experiences weekly, and interactions with the outdoors, other animals, and children. By the time they go home, they are mostly potty trained and transition easily into full house training, which made bringing Beamer home such a smooth experience. Beamer is my constant companion—he goes everywhere with me. He does wonderfully during grooming and, while he may not love every moment of it, he is well-behaved, patient, and confident. He already has quite the fan club wherever we go, which says a lot about his temperament and social skills. I give Donna a 10 out of 10. If you choose to purchase one of her puppies, you will not be disappointed. The quality, care, and love she puts into her dogs truly shows

Donna was amazing throughout the entire process and I am so satisfied with my baby boy! Donna was nice enough to FaceTime me so I could see all of the puppies, she answered all of my questions, and met me at the airport for delivery. Donna provided me with a beautiful puppy starter bag to ensure I had everything I needed to get started. I am very thankful to have found Donna and my forever puppy Sire!

Donna was absolutely fantastic through the entire process. She was communicative and responsive and shared lots of photos and videos while we were waiting for our puppy to be ready. We loved meeting our pup before bringing her home. Vesper has been with us for a couple of weeks now and it's clear how much heavy lifting Donna did before sending her off. She is super chill, healthy, happy, and calm about meeting people. We're thrilled to have a new furry family member. Thanks Donna!
