Q. & A. with Lili
Why did you start breeding?
We breed because we hope to help families find their puppies from responsible and ethical sources to help build a better and safer world for our dogs. Every litter is always a little different, but it is so fulfilling to see the different personalities and such a joy and challenge to hand-raise each puppy. We love watching them blossom!
What makes your program special?
Day One: The second the puppies are born, we weigh them. We will continue to weigh them daily until week one. Then we will weigh them weekly. This is the puppy's first human contact, and it will be a positive experience!
Day Three: Begining this day, we will trim all the puppy's nails. We will continue to do this every three days until they are ready to go home! Week One: At the beginning of this week, we will reach out and interview you. We do this to learn more about you and what you are looking for in a dog. We will also show you a preview of the puppies, but you will not choose a puppy at this point. During this week, we will also begin touch desensitization by touching the puppies all over their bodies. We will do this daily until they go home!
Week Four: At the point the puppies are not able to get vaccinations so we will allow them to socialize with our other dog ONLY. Week Five: We will start temperament testing the puppies. We do a variety of tests to determine a puppy's personality best. We test for:
Dependence vs. independence, Submissiveness vs. dominance, Prey drive, Retrieval drive, Sensitivity to sound, Water sensitivity, and more! We will continue to test the puppies daily! Week Six: At this point, we will wean the puppies off of Mama's milk and start feeding puppy mush. We also start crate & potty training. We will also start taking them outside and will allow them to be out there for short periods of time. Puppies will go to the vet to get their microchips, applicable vaccinations, and a wellness check. Week Seven: We will contact you and schedule a time for you to come out and meet the puppies! We will show you the puppies we think would best fit your needs based on the interview conducted at week five. Of course, you are welcome to choose whichever puppy you want. We contact-based off placement on our reservation list! Week Eight: All the puppies are ready to go home! We'll invite you back for Puppy Pick-Up Day & Orientation. You will receive a take-home packet, a puppy starter kit, and we'll tell you all you need to know about the puppies and to go home!
