I'm Susan A., the breeder behind Allen’s Ridge Ranch located in Greenville, SC. We are lifelong animal enthusiasts. Our passion is poured into every aspect of our breeding program. We adore the traditional colors but specialize in the specialty colors of lilac (AKC silver), Chocolate and Tanpoints in Solids, Harlequin, and Merle.
Q. & A. with Susan
Why did you start breeding?
Tom is a medical PhD, Masters in Zoology and I am a nurse. We continuously study genetics of Danes. We have over 15 years of breeding healthy, happy puppies and this is our way to give back to the breed and the families. We are proud to see our dogs and puppies shine. We frequently are sought out to help guide newer breeders facing the challenges of breeding large breed dogs with large litters.
What makes your program special?
Each puppy is greatly loved by us! We ensure they are socialized, healthy, and prepared to excel in their forever homes. Our dogs are bred for those specifics, and we take pride in our breeding program. We are very proud to be breeding these incredible Great Danes.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include silver, mantle merle, chocolate, fawn, blue, harlequin, mantle, and merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Rehoming adults
In our 18 years of breeding Great Danes we have chosen to keep most of our retired “dane kids”. If you do have one of our adopted adult danes, you are very fortunate because they are a rarity. Most have spent a wonderful post breeding life, running and playing here on the Ranch.
But along with the maturation and aging of Allen’s Ridge Ranch, wr realize that we are aging also and the last year has been greatly changed by cancer. Life changes have resulted in health issues that seem to create impossibilities to continue nurturing our retired babies through their remaining years. In the last couple years, we have downsized the farm animals to more manageable level.
So now, we sadly are looking for a few perfect families to match with our retired danes. We are picky and very selective. These amazing danes who truly are our family members and their adoptions will be handled like placing a child! And like children, they are each unique with different personalities, traits, likes and dislikes and needs. They all are up to date on rabies shot, yearly vaccines and kennel cough prevention.
At first they may be shy and timid and will need some time to decompress, and bond to the new home and family before accepting excited affection energy. Remember they have lived with us the majority of their lives. Once they have had time to become bonded with your family, they will be much a people pleaser personality.. and think they fit on your lap while lounging on the sofa!!
You must have large breed dog experience and a fenced in yard..

Reese and Leisel's litter
Parent dogs
Leisel, mom
Great Dane
About Leisel
Leisel is such a gentle natured girl who loves being close to us no matter what we are doing. She adores long walks through our farm trails and quiet evenings full of ear and belly rubs. She has proven to be one of our top moms, caring for her wee ones like she cares for us. Her coat is thick and soft, so beautiful. She is a harlequin pie who carries tanpoint, chocolate. Her babies are totally breathtaking! This beautiful Dane is health tested with good PennHip X-rays and clearance, OFA thyroid, Cardiac, AKC DNA, and Embark genetic health tested and cleared. She is 85 percent European imported genetics from Germany and Brazil. Don’t miss out on your chance to make one yours.
Layla, mom
Great Dane
About Layla
Layla is one of our pride and joy high European ‘home grown’ babies. Her mom is our beautiful Leisel and our Duke is her stunning silver (lilac) tanpoint daddy. Layla is an incredible chocolate harlequin pie tanpoint. One of the very few who hasn’t lids this genetic package in her high Euro lines! She is a total velcro big baby. She really believes that she is an extension of me….Layla just completed her health testing with of course great results. This beautiful Dane is health tested with good PennHip X-rays and clearance, OFA thyroid, Cardiac, AKC DNA, and Embark genetic health tested and cleared. We are so excited to see what prescious darlings she will produce in this next generation of the greatest of danes from ARR!! Consider your very own velcro, incredible beauty from Layla…
Hailey, mom
Great Dane
About Hailey
Hailey is a very special dane indeed. As of my last investigation she is the only known female full European pie Great Dane who carries the chocolate gene. She also carries tanpoint. When she was born and her color genetics were tested… we found that she holds a rainbow of genetic color possibilities that are abundant in American danes but not in European lines. I knew that she was born to be my baby. She came to be a family member here at ARR when she turned 8 weeks old. She is the sweetest, goofball girl that there could ever be. We absolutely can’t wait to have her first litter. It feels like a lifetime of waiting for Santa to come for her first two years. But now she is mature and ready to become a momma. With her sweet nature we really think she will be a fantastic mom her first time. This beautiful Dane is health tested with good PennHip X-rays and clearance, OFA thyroid, Cardiac, and Embark genetic health tested and cleared. And of course AKC. Don’t miss your chance to have a very special Hailey baby!!!
Duke, dad
Great Dane
About Duke
Duke is a rare lilac (AKC Silver) Tanpoint! He is the sweetest, gentle spirit dane ever!!! He is one of the first lilac tanpoint males born. Genetically he is high European which gives him his big head and beautiful thick structure. But the touch of American genetics gives him nice tight eyes and not a lot of drool tha many Euros demonstrate. A deficiency Nate plus!! This beautiful Dane is health tested with good distraction index on his PennHip X-rays , OFA thyroid, Cardiac, and AKC DNA’d.
Reese, dad
Great Dane
About Reese
Reese is a calm, gentle natured dane which makes him wonderful around people of all ages. He is a medium build stunning beastly beauty with his bold tanpoints glowing against his Chocolate mantle background color! He imprints his babies with his magnificent qualities! He is DNA genetic health tested by Embark, PennHip certified, OFA certified for basic cardiac and thyroid and AKC DNA’d. Don’t miss out on these genetics in your dane baby!
Tanner, dad
Great Dane
About Tanner
Tanner is such a special dane to us. He is out of one of our all time favorite breeding genetic combinations. They are highly intelligent, with a drive to please. This beautiful Dane is health tested with good PennHip X-rays and clearance, OFA thyroid, Cardiac, AKC DNA, and Embark genetic health tested and cleared . He is a blue, genetic tanpoint pie, who carries chocolate for those of you wondering his color potential. He is a combination of European and American lines which we believe is best. Taller than most full Euro lines but has the fuller bone structure that the Euro lines give. A nice large full head but less drooling on your walls….. a definite benefit of the combination!!!! But most of all he is just our big goofy couch hog who loves us as much as we love him!!!
Tatum, mom
Great Dane
About Tatum
Tatum’s beauty demands presence when she enters a room. A true regal dane. She is a brindle harlequin who carries pie, chocolate, blue, and tanpoint. She is combined Euro/American linage. She is Genetic health DNA screened by Embark, PennHip Xray certified, OFA basic cardiac screened. Tatum is one of our couch babies who quickly claims her part of the couch as you are halfway sitting down. She is a kind gentle personality. Her babies are exquisite in this breeding. We are so so excited!
