I'm Melissa W., the breeder behind Antigua Standard Poodles located in Huntsville, TX. We have produced many AKC & UKC Champion & Grand Champion Standard Poodles since beginning with our 1st Poodle in 1999. Many of our puppies have become exceptional show dogs, & all of them have become excellent family dogs. Some have become service dogs, search & rescue dogs, hunting dogs, and sport dogs. Many of our puppy buyers have become lifelong friends & extended family. We are dedicated to always improving health & longevity in our lines with each generation so that the breed will continue to thrive for a long time to come.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    I grew up raising & training field trial & hunting dog breeds with my father. Dogs have always been my life & I’ve been blessed with a lot of talent & interest in genetics, so breeding top quality animals is my priority & what I give back to the world. Nothing is better than hearing how 1 of our puppies is the best dog that our puppy buyers’ have ever owned, because we put a lot of love & care into each & every puppy we produce.
  • What makes your program special?

    We are a family of 3 generations of dog lovers and professionals in the animal industry. We have a great depth of knowledge and experience in genetics & rearing puppies & offering lifetime support to our puppy buyers.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

    Our puppies include moyen and standard sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include apricot, black, brown, red, white, parti, and phantom. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Melissa

Melissa has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Melissa partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“We take great care in placing each puppy with the right person/family. Puppies are matched once they're old enough for us to evaluate their temperaments and personalities — typically around 7-9 weeks.”

Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit and between $2,000 - $4,500 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“Pet/Companion puppy price with Limited AKC Registration. Puppies are carefully matched with buyer’s personality, lifestyle, needs, & preferences. Our puppies undergo Early Neurological Stimulation program between 3-16 days of age and are raised with Puppy Culture techniques. Each puppy is sold on contract with replacement guarantees, spay/neuter agreement, & with a no-resale stipulation. If at any time buyer cannot keep our Poodle, it must be returned to us. Pups are wormed & vaccinated, along with being microchipped before leaving. We also have partnered with an online dog training school & offer 20% discounts on training classes for all Antigua Standard Poodles! Prices may vary between solid color litters and multi color litters.”

Melissa may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.   • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

    Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Dentition

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), Generalized, Neonatal Encephalopathy with Seizures (NEwS), von Willebrand Disease III (vWD III)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
