I'm Lori R., the breeder behind Aristaios Farms located in Coventry, RI. My breeding program focuses on producing Whippets that exemplify the breed traits Whippet breeders and families are looking for. I breed with discrimination, selecting only dogs that pass health testing, are good representatives of the breed, and will produce my next generation of hopefuls for the breed and performance events. I also strive to produce puppies that can be used as therapy animals and most importantly, cherished pets. I am just as selective with my families and thoroughly screen buyers personally before committing puppies. When you obtain an Aristaios puppy, you become a member of our family for the life of your dog.
Q. & A. with Lori
Why did you start breeding?
I (Lori Rizzo) have been training, showing and hunting purebred dogs since 1976. Over the past 40 years, I've worked in veterinary medicine, canine reproductive research, taught dog obedience classes and consulted on behavioral training. I've raised and shown multiple breeds, including Irish/English/Gordon Setters, Bull Terriers, Italian Greyhounds, Golden Retrievers, Leonbergers and Whippets. My personal breeding program has been limited over the years due to family and career obligations, along with the ethical belief that breeding should be selective and done with care.
What makes your program special?
I am dedicated to placing my puppies into a home that will allow them to excel and thrive. Since Whippet puppies can be challenging and owning sighthounds requires experienced dog owners, I do screen my families well. Once we determine we might be a good fit, I make every effort to keep you informed of my litters, from breeding through the time you pick up your puppy, and for life. You are a member of the Aristaios family! My litter families also enjoy a Facebook group page and now we are doing Zoom puppy training lessons to get everyone started. I am a natural educator and my job is to make sure you are successful with your puppy and can call me at any time if you need help or support.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Stormy is one of the sweetest natured Whippets I’ve owned and will willingly melt into your lap! She is calm and sweet at home, never gets into trouble. In the show ring she has a beautiful ring presence and has shown at Westminster and the AKC Nationals. She is also very fast and is half way through her ASFA lure coursing championship.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Aristaios Farms reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Whippets.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Whippet Health Foundation Database, Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
