I'm Rachel E., the breeder behind Ascent Kennels - Central Asian Shepherds & Portuguese Water Dogs located in Lake George, CO. I breed for health, temperament, and type in both breeds. I compete in the show ring and in the performance ring. I breed to keep the dogs true to their original purpose.
Q. & A. with Rachel
Why did you start breeding?
I started with Portuguese Water Dogs almost 20 years ago. PWD's changed the way I viewed pet ownership. I love their shenanigans and their versatility to do anything I want to do!
Central Asian Shepherds came into more recently - only 6 years - after we moved to the mountains and needed stock protection. They're a very tough breed who love ONLY their people. I have many CAS now working the ranch.
What makes your program special?
I dont sell you a puppy and wish you well. I support my puppy buyers for the lifetime of the dog as I consider myself responsible for any animal produced in my program.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our Portuguese Water Dog puppies include black and white, brown and white, black, and brown. Central Asian Shepherd Dog puppies include white, black, fawn, and brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.
