I'm Shannon P., the breeder behind Backwoods Bernedoodles located in St. James, MO. We are huge animal lovers and have a special place in our hearts for our dogs. We want to provide top-quality beloved companions. In order to start our puppies off on the right paw, we begin training and socializing at a young age so they are set up for success in their new homes.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    My family has always raised puppies. My grandmother and mother both had a passion for pets as well. I grew up in a family that has always bred dogs. I have a love of many breeds and a desire to improve specific traits in a breed.

  • What makes your program special?

    Health Testing: Prioritizing genetic testing to minimize health issues. Temperament: Selecting for good temperament traits to ensure well-adjusted puppies. Socialization: Early socialization and training to prepare puppies for their future homes. Education: Providing ongoing support and education to puppy buyers. Ethical Practices: Committing to responsible breeding practices, including not overbreeding and ensuring all dogs are well cared for.

    Our puppies are standard size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include sable, tri-color, and merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Getting a puppy from Shannon

Shannon has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Shannon partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“Puppies are matched once they are old enough for their personalities and temperaments to emerge - typically around 4 weeks old. I have 3 deposit holders that will be picking their forever fur baby March 14-15, 2026. ”

Price

Puppy prices include a $400 non-refundable deposit and between $1,400 - $1,600 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“The price includes the following: Dewclaw removal, 1-year health guarantee, CKC registration, the first round of vaccinations, puppy socialization, and a puppy pack that will include a fuzzy blanket, toys, and a small bag of food. The deposit amount is $400.00 and the remaining balance is due before the puppy is released to the new owners.”

Contract & health guarantee

Shannon may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.
